2002 S60 AWD fog lights

Silly question...is it either feasible or not prohibitively expensive to add OEM fog lights to a car that did not come standard with them (the dummy covers in the bumper and the blank switch cover where the fog light switch would be would bug the crap out of me, lol).

Thanks!

very feasible. you need to buy the harness if the car is not already wired and also software update is required.
Re: (shagginwagon)

Thanks for the info! I guess I'd need a harness, the fog lamps and the dash switch (in lieu of the dummy plate). Any relays or anything like that? What's the software update for, where does one get it and how is it applied? Would I need any special brackets to mount the lamps in the bumper?

Thanks!
Re: (landsmarra)

You buy the entire kit, comes with everything.
You trim out the plastic then install everything is right there.
THEN you MUST to go to a Volvo dealer to have them "initialized" to the car
(No way around that)
Re: (JRL)

Is the kit a dealer item only? If not, any suggestions as to where to get the equipment at a discount? Any rough idea what the kit costs?

Curious about the "initialization" thing. Why is that?
Re: (landsmarra)

myswedishparts.com has the kit for like 140 bucks thats where i got mine.
Re: (deerok)

Thanks for the tip! I couldn't find the kit on their site so I guess I'll give them a call.
Re: (landsmarra)

Should be around 100-150.
You will need the lights, switch, relay, and software download.
Re: 2002 S60 AWD fog lights (landsmarra)

I was able to source my OEM fog lights off of eBay...for like about $100. My dealership charged $75 for labor for installing the software and $35 for the software itself.

Under the blank cover in the lighting control panel is the actual button to operate the fog lights. You'll need remove the blank and purchase a little plastic "button" to replace the previous blank. Good luck!

Here are some software options that are available. I have software #8619399.

I contacted Myswedishparts.com and the man said that the OEM dash button comes with the kit. Is he wrong?
You can also install fogs just like you would on any other car that didn't have them. I just bought the foglights and ran a separate fused circuit from the battery, installed a switch in the stock location and was done. No software, no dealership visit, just foglights, circuit and switch. Total cost = $75.

Re: (NJGreenBudd)

that certainly is a nice route to take. This also make the fog lights operate separate from high beams.

Since they are on their own circuit. They are independent of everything else.

Has anyone figured out how to make them turn on with high beam on ?
I think on the 850 it is just changing a relay config - repositioning of a jumper.

Another plus to that, is that you can have them on whenever you turn the car on. The way it is now, is that you must manually press the button every time the car turns off/on. I might actually rewire them like that, I never really thought about that.

Why would you want the foglights on all the time?
Re: (Turbos60)

If you have the know how, and basic understanding of 12v electronics, you can install them yourself. It won't take a dealer's involvement, and you can have them come on with the car, and add a switch yourself.

I don't mean on when the car is off, but whenever the car is on, I would want the foglights to go on so I don't have to keep on pressing the switch manually.

Foglights during the day?

Mine don't come on with the car, only when I flip the switch. Works fine for me and I like the fact that I didn't have to pay the stealership. Plus you get a certain satisfaction doing it yourself.
