Just bought a 2001 V70XC last week. 108K really clean car. Started out it's life in PA. Now it's with me here in VA. Anyway, I noticed the black plastic wire shielding is dry rotted and falling apart . Is anybody else having this problem. I'm going to replace everything around the engine with a aluminized version from McMaster Carr. It won't be too much of a pain, just an afternoon with a barley pop or two.

Re: 2001 XC70 Wiring harness degrading (gdill2)

Just looking for a poll. Want to know if I'm alone on this. I have an 85' with a rotten harness, I know about those. I'm curious to see if the XC70 is a fluke.

They all do it due to heat in the engine bay .
Go to advanced auto or napa or place like that and buy new wire harness loom.
Maybe $40 worth of black plastic stuff.

I've allready got an aluminized version that's impervious to oil, gas, brake fliud, etc... and has a higher heat resistance. Thanks!
