Hello all, I hope that someone out there can perhaps provide a little information pertaining to why I am having problem with the transmission on my V70. The car runs fine the first 20-minutes of drive time in the morning, then once the car warms up the engine starts to race and the car jumps into gear. I am thinking that since the car runs fine the first 20 minutes each morning the problem may not be a hard mechanical problem, but a problem with transmission fluid. I am thinking before taking the car in for transmission repair, perhaps I should just have transmission fluid replaced first, to determine if that is the problem.
My V70 is a great can and this first real problem, it has 140,000 miles and mostly highway miles.
Any thoughts or recommendations.
Thanks
Keith

Re: 2001 V70 transmission shift delay and jumping (ksingram)

Keith,
The symptoms you are describing may also be a result of a failing valve body in the transmission. In my experience, if this goes on too long, transmission failure will result. Valve bodies are expensive, but not anywhere near the cost of an entire transmission. I wish you luck Sir.
T

NO ONE replaces just valve bodies anymore.
It's been found (and has cost dealers plenty) that usually the entire trans needs a full rebuild (or a new one installed).
A valvebody fix alone especially with 140K miles is so highly doubtful you should not waste your money.
Bottom line, you may as will try the fluch first but usually at these miles you need a new tranny (unless there is someone near you that can rebuild them). Not many can and do, maybe a dozen people in the entire US know how to and can GET THE PARTS to rebuild these properly!
Your symptoms are classic, pretty soon it will lose all driveability
