I have been watching the light displays for about a year now--20K miles. Brake failure light--brakes fine, ABS light, check engine, traction control service light. They go on at odd intervals. Sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes for an hour (more active in warmer weather--not much during the depths of Maine winter.) When all four lights are on, the trip meter mileage disappears, and the odometer reading is displayed but does not change. Speedometer is fine throughout. Cruise control disabled when tripmeter display is not on.
I've been told that it's probably the ABS module--would that account for all of the above phenomena? Car runs fine, drives fine otherwise.

Re: 2001 V70 T5 automatic. ABS/brake failure/checkengine/tractioncontro ... (cvaughan)

This week, my mechanic checked all the grounds, replaced the ABS module with a rebuilt one, and the problems all seem to have disappeared--so far, anyway. Hard to believe that one module can mess up so many different circuits.

If you're in a similar situation again, check out Victor Rocha...rebuilding ABS wizard.

Costs about $145 for the repair, shipping, etc...

He is a great find...Mr. Kotter

I just fixed my 01 with the exact same problem. I rebuilt the module myself, basically the failure is solder joints breaking. Reflowing the solder and adding a bit of fresh stuff is all that's really needed; but they really don't want you to get into that box, it's sealed quite well.

This is the thread over at MVS I used for reference.

Victor is terrific! Easy part swap, too. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif
