Sorry if this has been asked before, I did a search with no luck...
I want to plus size my wheels with new aftermarket wheels. I currently have Volvo Tethys wheels, and they are 17 X 7.5 with what I have heard has a 49mm offset. The aftermarket wheels that I am looking at, 18 X 8, range from 38mm to 45mm offset. How do I find out what offset I need, going from 7.5" wide to 8" wide? Thanks in advance for any advice...

Re: 2001 S60 T5 wheel offset (afterimage)

well,
8" - 7.5" = 0.5" = 12.7mm (i think )
divide that by 2 because of center = 6.35mm should be your extra offset to match correctly.
someone fix me if im wrong.

Re: 2001 S60 T5 wheel offset (phuz)

That makes sense... when I entered my car info on tirerack.com, it came up with (as one of many options) an 18X8 with a 45mm offset. And 49mm (my current offset with 7.5" wide wheels) minus 8.85mm is 40.15mm.
That said, it also gave me some options for 18X7.5 with a 40mm offset. The 5mm differece would make it stick out a little more (flush with the fender) and compensates for the difference of half an inch in width.
I think I am leaning towards the 18X8's. Any thoughts/experiences with this size wheel?
Thanks again.

I went from tethys to the OZ Superturismo GT (also a 17x7.5 wheel) but the OZ have I think 4mm less offset so the slightly wider stance looks real nice, and got rid of the rub at full steering lock. Anything that works out as 4-8mm wider should look real good, just do the math.

Re: 2001 S60 T5 wheel offset (phuz)

Thanks for the advice Warpedcow and Phuz... I think 18X8 with 45mm offset is what I will end up getting. I feel like 40mm may stick out too much.
I photoshopped this "borrowed" image from tire rack (because they don't have this particular wheel) to see how one of the options I am thinking about will look... I of course "lowered" the car too
http://homepage.mac.com/blemen/rims.jpg

Yep, thanks for the help. I have a few options for wheels in mind, but finding any with a 5X108mm bolt pattern is harder than I thought... at least any that I like.

The narrower the rim, the more rolled over the tire is and the smaller contact patch you get
There was recently an R forum thread discussing if the 8 inch width of Pegs was too small for a 235 tire, and they decided that an 8.5 would probably be better (gives you a larger/flatter contact patch).
