I have a 2000 XC with around 50k on it. Just in the last few days I have been having starting issues with it. Either it just wont start after been driven or it starts then dies right away. There are no codes after resetting the check engine light and pulling a p1194. The check engine light is still off but the start problem is still there. Any help would be most apprectiated.
Thanks

ETM, MAF, literally could be one of a dozen things.
You should NEVER turn of a CEL if you're planning on bringing it to a Volvo dealer.
Volvo codes are different than generic codes so you just make them work harder and longer (your money here) to find out what the code is.

Re: (JRL)

This exact same thing happened to my friend this a.m. with his "new" '00 V70SE. Didn't start at all. He knocked on my door and asked if he could borrow my wagon for the day. I of course said he could. I've been telling him he needs to get those two recalls done and get his CEL looked at and do his 60K service. Since he hasn't had the ETM recall done..and one other...that very well may be the problem.

If he has two keys on the same keychain remove one. I had this problem last week in an 01, both keys were on the tag and one was interfering with the other, the immobilizer again. Once the other key was moved away (or covered up with my hand) everything was fine

Chevy started this in 96 with the Corvette, no problems. You would think 1/2 a decade later that VOLVO could make it right but now a decade later, STILL problems.
Over designed and under enginerred, as usual

I certainly wouldn't have bought the car without any service records and knowing that the 2 important recalls haven't been done.
I know he took it in to the shop where he bought the car. He thinks the extended warranty he paid them for is going to cover his problems. I doubt it. sounds like a warranty/dealer issue that will need to be fixed there..especially the recalls. He also financed this used car over 5 years!!
