I am very interested in a 2000 c70 convertable and was wondering if anyone had any information that would help me decide this is a smart move. I have found one with about 33,000 miles, it looks like it is great shape, except there is a water mark on the inside of the top, rear passenger side. I'm trying to figure out the best way to figure out if there is a problem with the top or if someone just opened the top on a wet day and while it was folding down or back up the inside got wet. Has anyone heard of any top leakage problems? Or for that matter any other problems with this car. I think the one I found is a LT model. Is there an easy way to tell the difference?
Would you think it's a good idea to pay Volvo $100.00 to look over the car before it was purchased, or any other mechanic? Or if it passes a state inspection would that be good enough.
I've never purchased a used car before so I just want to make sure that if I purchase this I do it right.
Sorry for all the questions but any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey..we got ourselves another Volvo lover here in Rockville.
If the car is still within the warranty period, I wouldn't worry too much about the top leakage problem. You can always take it back to dealer to get it fixed. I have the Coupe, don't know much about the Conv. ones. You might want to drop by C70 section and ask Topless_tart, he's in UK and has the Conv, should be able to answer your questions.
How much are they asking for the car? Easiest way to tell if it's the LPT or HPT version is probably from the wheels, but then again...the previous owner can always change that. You can always look up the engine code or VIN number. Also, if it's a manual, it's gotta be HPT. They don't offer manual tranny in LPT.
As for paying Volvo dealer $100, I'm not even sure if they'd do a good job. Do you know any other mechanics around this area? Or you can always call up Rob @ European Auto Svc Inc (301) 565-9023. A good friend of Swedespeed, they specialize in European cars and Volvos, and will do a REAL and detail inspection for you. Only other dealer I have better experience is Fairfax Volvo, Richard Kelly. Not sure if the seller will let you drive that far, though.
Man..if you can really get this deal settled, we gonna have 4 C70s showing up the next get together event then.
Well, good luck on your purchase, let us know how it turns out.
