I've been told the TriColor had approx 1,000 volvos of which approx. 200 were XC90's bound for Baltimore.

Here is the latest:
The ship was supposed to dock, first, at Port Newark then Baltimore then at Savannah, GA with its final destination being Port Hueneme, CA.
I just want to hope for the best but I am pretty fearful of what might lie ahead, especially with the XC90s...the other models (orders) can be replaced; the XC90s...that's going to be pretty tough.
I am crossing my fingers.
I will know more details on Monday...
Yannis

To add to the intrigue, or speculation, or whatever, I called my Dealer and he said they had contacted Volvo and were told all they had on the ship were S40's. So who knows?

Re: 200 XC90'S Bound for Baltimore on the TriColor (doublel)

Wonder how much polution this wreck could cause...I am sure that it would pale in comparison to the Exxon Valdez and the recent sinking of the tanker Prestige (off the coast of Spain) but if the Tricolor was carrying itself 2,000 TONS of fuel and assuming each one of the 2,800+ cars had about 3 gallons of gasoline, that is an additional 8,400 gallons of gas plus the different chemicals found in each car such as antifreeze, brake fluids, etc...
Man! What a loss! Never heard of a car carrier sinking...I thought that these ships were tough enough...especially when the container ship that hit the Tricolor was half its tonnage...and that ship made it back to Antwerp under its own power!
How the heck can there be a collision with the latest technology on board the ships (GPS, radar, etc...). I wonder if someone fell, literally, asleep on the wheel!
Yannis

Re: 200 XC90'S Bound for Baltimore on the TriColor (GrecianVolvo)

Working at a Volvo Retailer in Northern California and awaiting vehicles for customers of mine I was very concerned about this ship wreck. Our General Sales Manager just got off the phone with a Volvo rep in Southern California and he told us approximately 1700 of the vehicles were Volvos and 400 of the Volvos were bound for the West Coast. Fortunately none of the 400 are XC90's. He says the West Coast destined vehicles are XC70's, S40's and V40's.
Just as Yannis said, more information will be available on Monday when we can talk more to the Volvo corporate staff in Irvine.
William
I find it hard to believe...
Yannis

Re: 200 XC90'S Bound for Baltimore on the TriColor (doublel)

There were 350+ XC90s on board. the ship was on the way to pick up a 1000 jaguars, that's why it was off england and on that route.

They thought that it was PROBABLE (based on the ETA) that those XC90s were on that ship. But nothing has been documented, yet. I am sure that it is a big mess trying to find out the VINs of the cars on board and them marrying them to incoming inventory lists.
I am sure that by tonight, they [Volvo] already know the extent of the damage and will let us know tomorrow.
There HAD to be XC90s aboard that ship, undortunately...
Yannis

Re: 200 XC90'S Bound for Baltimore on the TriColor (mjbr24)

Well, I have spoken with 3 different people from Volvo, today, and the general consensus is that there were 170 XC90s scheduled to be released to Port Baltimore (don't know about how many XC90s were supposed to be released at Port Newark)...So, it is pretty much guaranteed that some of them belonged to Philadelphia-area Retailers.
What gives me a little glimmer of hope is that the Tricolor was supposed to arrive at Port Baltimore on December 24 and there were two other ships that were supposed to arrive during the last week of December...that can help dilute the loss even further...
Yannis

170 for baltimore is right, but it was making stops at other ports after that. the total number is 350, 1,800 volvos total.
