Well folks, I hit a rock on Monday doing about 45 mph right in front of my work. It was a potato sized chunk of quartz that I just didn't see. Stupid, and my fault. The front driver's side tire blew out immediately with about a 4" separation between the tread and sidewall, the rear had about a 1" gash in the sidewall and leaked out over the next 5 minutes. While I was only a few hundred yards from my parking lot, at first I didn't even realize that the front tire was blown. Of course I slowed down very quickly and turned into work, but it didn't hit me until I stopped. The car handled it very well and I was surprised that aside from a slight pull to the left there wasn't much drama at all.

Aside from having to buy 4 new tires (I have a 2004 R with 15k miles on it so those Pirellis were nearly done anyway), I'm pretty sure I need a rim. I couldn't tell since the front tire was covering up the rim where it had blown. I've seen posts in the forums that claim 18" Pegs can be found for $225. The dealer quoted me $370 for replacements.

What I need is a quick response with some real data, i.e. who do I call to get $225 Pegs. The tires will be in on Tuesday of next week so I need to grab a rim before then. Thanks in advance.

If you didn't see it, then how do you know it was potato sized and a chunk of quartz?
Sorry about the mis-hap...it happens to the best of us.

I'd call Tire Rack and inquire about tire pricing. And, if you'd prefer to buy locally, most larger tire places will match Tire Rack pricing if you ask them about it. I'd also look into different tires, but I'm not really a fan of the PZeros.

As far as the Pegs...definitely call George @ Viva http://********************/smile/emthup.gif http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Thanks for the quick response! I'm going to order an 18" right away. As for the tires, I went with Michellin Pilot Sport PS2s. They have good reviews and some people really like them. I wasn't too fond of the Pirelli's but I could be wrong, we'll find out. For some reason the dealer gave me a great deal on the tires, they were $1 cheaper than tire rack, which was fine by me.

As for the rock, after I hit it, I went out into the road to remove the hazard for other drivers. It's in my office now, and is a pretty good door stop. It has some wicked sharp edges, and some tire marks on it..

I paid 540€ for 2 Rosso's 95Y 18" last week (incl everything, taxes, rolling-in before (and) ballancing with a laser-equiped ballancing-machine)
