Greetings!

I'm new here. I was on Volvospeed a while back when I had my 850.

I may be about to inherit a 1977 Volvo 265. I was wondering if much can be done with the PRV V6 to bring it somewhat beyond its 130 horsepower or if I should plan on swapping in a 2.3L turbo 4 or a Ford 5.0.
Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
Joe

Welcome to Swedespeed, Joe.

What is the current condition of the engine? Vehicle? Your budget?

Will this be your first Volvo?

Trekkie?

Thanks.

Don't waste your time with the 2.7 liter and swap in later 230FT (turbo) from a wrecked 1992-1995 940 Turbo OR you could try to turbocharge the V6 using a remote exhaust mounted turbo under the body- probably the easiest, cheapest way unless you have easy access to a turbo exhaust manifold that will bolt to the block. I would keep boost low as I have heard the pistons don't take to well to boost- say 6PSI max. You can install an inline boost a pump into the fuel line to the engine to supply additional fuel and you may need to upgrade the main fuel pump too. Of course you need to monitor the A/F ratio carefully.

Read this regarding remote exhaust mounted turbos:
