"2.5T AWD vs AWD"

Good Morning,
I'm looking at acquiring an '03 XC70, I've noticed quite a few '03's that say "2.5T AWD" vice the simple "AWD" under the XC70 logo on the rear hatch. What delineates the difference between the two? I know all XC70's have the 2.5L Turbo, and I thought that was only one "trim level" for the XC70. Is it a specific option package that brings that?
Thanks for the help.
Scott

Nice job looking at the right car...for an XC, you won't find a nicer wagon...and all or most of the earlier year quirks worked out. Believe that both have low pressure turbo's so not sure what the diff. is...maybe just the badge? But I'm sure JRL will chime in and possibly tell me that I'm wrong.

Re: "2.5T AWD vs AWD" (ScottNH)

There are several differences between the 2.5t AWD and the XC70. The XC70 is raised several inches, so the suspension and drivetrain is different. The AWD Drive systems I believe are Haldex with a FWD bias for both vehicles. The exterior styling is different. Other than that the models are basically the same. Due to the ride height and suspension differencecs, the rides are very different between the 2 vehicles.
They are considered different models, although they both use the V70 chassis.

Re: "2.5T AWD vs AWD" (EBender1965)

Thanks for all the prompt replies. I didn't do a very good job of explaining my confusion.
I am not looking at the V70 and the XC70. I have seen two "versions" of the badge on 2003 XC70's.
1. "XC70" and below that it says "AWD"

2. "XC70" and below that it says "2.5T AWD"

Both are XC70's, but I can't figure out the difference.
Thanks, again.
Scott

Re: "2.5T AWD vs AWD" (ScottNH)

XC70 AWD -- If I recall correctly these are MY02 an earlier; 2.4T light pressure turbo, 197hp (?), forgot what the max torque is, with viscous coupling.
XC70 2.5T AWD -- These are from MY03 onwards; 2.5T light pressure turbo, 208hp, 236 lb.ft, with Haldex electronic coupling
I believe in MY03, Volvo started to put the 2.5T engine (B5254T2) engine into the market, starting with the AWD models (definitely the XC, but not sure on the non-XC models), while the MY03 FWD models still use the older 2.4T engines.
If you are looking at MY03 XC70, you should see the 2.5T on the badge. Alternatively you can confirm the engine by looking at the VIN of the car.
Cheers,
Freddy
----

Re: "2.5T AWD vs AWD" (radioflyer)

Freddy,
Both cars in the above pics are 2003 XC70's, with the 208hp motors. If what you mean by "MY03" is "Model year '03," that explanation doesn't seem to fit.
Scott

Re: "2.5T AWD vs AWD" (ScottNH)

I, personally, have never seen that badge...
All xc70's are going to have the same essential driveline... LPT engine, 5 spd auto and AWD...
Prior to being called XC70's, they were called V70 XC AWD.... So there is probably some confusion from the other responses you have received...
I have sold Volvo's sine 1999 and I can't recall seing an xc70 with a 2.5T badge... (memory is a bit weak though)... My best guess is it is a badging error from the factory (which I have seen before) OR the tailgate has been painted and incorrect badges were applied...
Make sure some of the 'heavyweights' like JRL chime in, to make sure it's just not a memory lapse on my part....
Sorry I thought you meant you were looking at regular V70 AWD vs XC70.
There should be no difference between models, possibly build date difference. All XC70 use the 2.5t engine from MY03 on. Possibly there are different packages in each, (e.g., Climate Package, Premium Package, or Convenience Package). That would be about it.

Re: "2.5T AWD vs AWD" (dugums)

I agree with everything I've read here, and it still bugs me. All 2003's should have the same motor, and there's supposed to be only one "trim level" (Leather seats notwithstanding.) It shouldn't be there, but it is. In my search for the right 2003, I've come across a number of the "2.5T" badged ones. Maybe 1 in every 5 or 6. Enough to make me wonder, and I'm just anal enough that this is going to bug me.

Like I said, it might be just a memory lapse on my part...
If you've seen a few, it's quite possible Volvo changed the badging at some point..
They have been known to make little changes throughout the year...
Don't worry about the badge if they're running the same engine...

Re: "2.5T AWD vs AWD" (dugums)

everybody seems confused here..... I have the solution, come to Europe and buy a XC70 D5 AWD, no worries about 2.5T or not anymore

Seriously, I've seen some XC70 2.5T here with the "2.5T" and some without, I guess the owners debadged it. DEBADGED is your answer
