2.4T or 2.4T AWD

1006 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Lisa62
Going tomorrow to buy whatever is on the lot.

They said no T5's left.

What are some must have options for the two aformentioned models?

Is DTSC worth it on the 2.4T or is it better coupled with the AWD system?

Is it possible to order the Premium package without Wood? I hate wood finish!

TIA.

BTW, any way to get Tethys wheels on the 2.4TAWD? How come I can't order these wheels on the AWD?

????

why not go to another dealer if you really want the T5? Or have the dealer do a swap/search for you?

It took me 6 months (Via TDS) to get my T5 here in the states, but the wait was well worth it because it showed up exactly the way I wanted it (except for the damned vinyl on the seats, but that's another story--grrrr.)

Get what you want; but that may mean waiting a bit of time for it. You'll be happier in the long run.
I would wait but I'm kinda of on a time contstraint. My 850 GLT is on it's last legs so it needs a replacement ASAP.
Hi. I'm sure you already know this, but you can scout out what they've got through the volvocars.com website. Most of the dealers within about a 150 mile radius of me kept their inventories online. Only 1 or 2 did not.

Sure, a couple of the S60s on that list might already be spoken for, but at least you go in somewhat knowledgeable about what they've got in stock, and what's generally available in your region.

One tip -- learn what the MSRP for a 2.4T and the AWD are with the equipment you want, and that makes your search WAY easier. There aren't billions of options -- it only takes you about 5 minutes, max, to do the "build your car" thing at volvocars.com, and since it shows you a running total as you go, just jot down the 2 or 3 MSRPs that are closest to how you'd want to equip your S60. Easy.

For example, the exact S60 that *I* was looking for had a sticker price of $X. If I saw ones that were $X, it had the upgraded wheels I wanted, or if they were $500 less than X, I knew they didn't have the upgraded wheels. Automatic (non-Geartronic) was a $1000 option, so I could decipher that, too, just from looking at the MSRP. If memory serves, you can click on "MSRP" on the right side to sort your list by price, so right away you can rule out the base 2.4's (which are all below $33K, if I'm not mistaken -- I was in the market a month ago, myself).

The online inventory is a tad shy on info, but it *does* have (for each car) the MSRP, powertrain info, auto or manual, and exterior/interior colors, if memory serves. As long as you printed out your "build my car" thingie, you'll know what each one comes with as you scout out your-spec car in the online inventories.

Happy hunting. Hope this helps!

Hi. Had a spare second, so I dug up the numbers for you for you to help you with your online search of inventories.

31,625 2.4T Base 33,375 2.4T AWD
400 Metallic Paint
250 Wheels (Sirius)
500 Wheels (Amalthea and Tethys)
450 Cold Weather Package
700 Touring Package
1,600 Premium Package
1,895 Nav System
1,100 DSTC
200 Geartronic Trans

In my case, none of the options I wanted tallied up to equal MSRPs, but I can see two exceptions in your case. Depending how much info each dealer enters into their online inventory (it varies), I bet you could still figure it out.

The pairings that might be hard to extract out of the MSRP:
1) ($500 wheels + Geartronic $200 = 700) and (Touring Package = 700), but you'll probably be able to decipher what it has from what's listed in it's online specs for the trans, I bet.

2) (Cold Weather = 450) and (Sirius Wheels for $250 + Geartronic at $200 = 450).

One other side-note... In my area all of the S60s seem to come pretty similarly equipped. ALL of them (and I mean like 90% of each dealer's inventory) had premium package, cold weather package (quite popular here in MI). There were literally NO 2.4s equipped with less than that, so it was easy for me to pick out the ones with the optional wheels and automatic transmissions.

That said, I ended up with one that wasn't yet in their online inventory...arrived the day I was there for a test drive of a similarly equipped one. Lucky me! In a perfect world I'd have done the overseas delivery. How cool is THAT?! Next time... But I was under time contraints, so I opted to go for what was there vs. waiting for months and months. I'll do that next time, though -- no doubt about it!

I have a 2002 S60 AWD with the Premium Package, DSTC and 17" Thor wheels. If you go with the AWD get 17" wheels of some sort.

DSTC is a personal preference I think. Living in a city where there's lots of rain made me want AWD and the DSTC just in case.

Well, I'm a liar.

Held off and did a special order.

2002 S60 2.4T AWD
Cosmos Blue
Graphite Interior
Thor Wheels (dealer might swap for Tethys, going to ask manager)
Premium Package
Cold Weather (No Charge)
Geartronic & Sunroof (STD)

Hopefully they can find one stateside, if not I'll be waiting 8-12 weeks.
(update: They found ONE, and only ONE stateside. Not sure how long it is going to take to get here, but it will be way quicker than 8-12 weeks!)

Thanks for the info.

If you really want the Tethys, you may want to see if your dealer will trade them out for you in trade for the Thors.

Lisa,

Cold Weather package is standard on S60 AWDs and the 16" Sirius alloys (std. on S60 T-5s and optional on S60 2.4Ts) are not available.

Not that you could know all these details since you don't deal with that stuff daily.

Thanks for the correction, Yannis! Yeah, as you can see, I was pulling the MSRP info from the 2.4T "build your car" thing, not the AWD one. Oooops! Oh, well... Was just trying to help. Thanks for clarifying!
