Well I went down to a couple of local muffler shops today to see what muffers will fit. I have came up with two options.
1. Keep the stock muffler and branch out two nice exhaust tips.
2. Install the maganflow exhaust and set up two echaust tips.
I am leaning towards the first options because I still have warranty left on the car and also it's a cheaper deal. However, I am not sure if I open the left side of the muffler will it breath? I want to have twin tips but I don't want a dummie on the left and one functioning on the right.
My second question is when I install a magnaflow exhaust, will the back pressure be a very huge difference? I don't race and a city driver 95% of the time.
I have a 2.4i can anybody shine any light on this would be awesome.
Here is a picture of the left side
Thanks!

If you cut off that cap then reach inside with pliers to pull out the fiberglass packing. Then you will have a fully working dual exhaust.
I have reason to believe the magnaflow has more back pressure then stock. So as far as puttering around town goes it should be nice.

It will be as functional as the T5 exhaust, which leans right also.
No, not really a huge diff, and if there is its all a positive diff.

Re: (Revolve40)

What size piping/muffler outlets are you going with? I don't imagine you'll go with anything big enough to overly decrease your backpressure. You should be fine with that and your warranty too

Re: (Moofluffen)

I was thinking the Camaro/firebird one. 2.25 in and 2.25 out. The shops told me it wasn't the piping but what is in the muffler that will change the pressure more. Moofluffen you reccoment any other place to get exhaust tips? Only place so far is Lordco =(

Re: (chromecarz00)

After reading this thread I decided to do it. So yesterday I went to the muffler shop and had the muffler done. It does work. I think I'll get rid of one of the two resonators this week for a little sportier sound, since the muffler mod didn't change the exhaust sound much.

Just curious to how much you paid for the job done? In addition, there are two resonators on the car? can you enlighten me . I won't be able to do this until later on in the weekend cause I got to service the car first.

Re: (sanatarium)

It has a cat plus two resonators. I'm getting rid of the one closest to the muffler.
I just opened up the muffler outlet, removed the fiberglass and had a tail pipe welded in place. Just like on the other side. No tailpipes with tips sticking out the rear yet. So I just paid $30 for that. This was a temporary thing until I get the rear valence and get some decent tail pipes with tips. For now, what I wanted was to have both outlets working, and they are.

I cut the nub off of the stock 2.4i muffler 5 years ago and pulled all the fiber glass out... mostly for esthetics but I learned pretty quickly that the right side flows much more readily than the left. Maybe I didnt get all the fiber glass packing out?

Use a reciprocating saw or a grinder cut-off wheel to cut it off. A hack saw will take a few days to go through that pipe.

If you don't have any power tools, you can go to your local parts store and loan out an exhaust pipe tool
