howdy,
i bought a red 05 V70R AT this past weekend. had to take a flight to get it and drove it 500+ miles home. crazy, i know. there were a few good examples around for sale, but none with the third row jumpseat like this one. and i was ready for an adventure.
it surprised me how well it drove. the seats, 4C, steering wheel, rocking stereo, good power, etc.
today i ordered an upper motor mount and trans torque mount as they were shot (at 35K? wtf?). this engine must really fight to stay put. will install this sat.
talked with ron at ipd about the badly-surging brakes and he recommended i retorque to wheel bolts, warm the brakes, get up to freeway speed, then stop as hard as i can x3. it worked (i think). i was thinking that i was going to have to replace brakes/rotors for a small fortune.
been a VW guy forever, but i'm keeping the W8 and this will be the family/wife's daily driver. to say she's thrilled is an understatement
pix in a few days

Welcome to SS!
First thing you want to do is browse the FAQ here in the R Forum. Also, look under your car and look for the pesky exhaust bracket and have it removed ASAP - shouldn't have any trouble finding info on it.
Enjoy the R!

thanks to all for the welcome!
to ATX: i knew the mounts were suspect when i heard/felt a clunk at low speeds while applying/releasing the throttle. then a visual inspection of the upper mount told all - the circular rubber bushing was fully torn all around. when i called ron at ipd to order the upper mount, he knew what the clunk was and said that the lower was most likely fried too - it was

Doubt the lower is bad at 35K.
You DO realize that you are going to have much more vibration at idle with any POLY mount?
Many owners with automatics don't like that fell (unless you have a 6 speed, which I doubt), as I know almost every one that is for sale)

But I have the QBM lower trans mount and the EST blue upper mount (similar to the slotted IPD mount up top) and it's not bad.
Volvo rubber is designed for compliance / ride comfort, and it WILL go south quickly. If the car is an '05 with 35k miles, it's likely that those 35k miles were accompanied by a bunch of stop and starts, so I'm not surprised if the lower mount was bad too.
Glad to hear that your brakes worked out well. The pads on this car are stupid easy to change, so if you need to, you can save a lot of $$$ there. And likely you don't need rotors, if the vibration persists flat sand the discs to remove the deposits and re-bed according to the procedure on the stop-tech website.
3x hard stop at highway speed isn't quite enough. You're looking to go for 10x and repeated. But it's a start.

Re: 1st post! (jstro)

Wanted to fly and drive, but instead decided to have mine shipped the 1100 miles from MN to FL. But Ti/Cama VR's aren't too easy to come by... and 1100 miles was close compared to others.

Please don't take any of the bickering in this R forum personal.
Have you checked for the exhaust bracket yet? If not make sure you do!
