So I was looking at the Sunday paper in the used Volvo section and ran into an ad for a 99 XC with 24K miles for only $24K. Went to their web site and found it. Just wondering if you guys think this is an incredible deal, something wrong with the car (ie previous accident) or what.
Click Here for the ad
Ron

You could run a CarFax history on the car to see if anything comes up. $24k maybe a decent deal but remember the '03s are starting to arrive so the car is four or five years old in model years-- if the car was put in service late in '98. How does the price compare to KBB.com or Edmunds.com? not that they are 100% accurate but may give you an idea. If it looks new in person and comes with the certified warranty to 75 or 100k its probably a good little wagon to take home for Christmas.
Although, the ad says green and the picture its blue.

KBB is saying $26385 for it. Can't find a price on Edmunds according to milege but average looks to be 55K miles for $20687.
The car probably won't come with a Certified Warranty as it's from a non-Volvo used car lot. It would be nice to take it home for Christmas but I'm not liking the beige interior. Also, I'm waiting for the new R's to show up before buying. Gotta have the power!
Ron

i just went to KBB.com and it told me that an Excellent condition 99 XC with 24k on the clock is worth just about 24k... 23,700 to be exact.. looks like they are asking exactly bluebook.. heres the link to the site!
http://www.kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/kw.kc.ur?kbb.ME;507448;ME031&03908;p&722;Volvo;1999%20V70&4;VO;D2&&&
may not work... plus i used my area code from maine that make a difference
I used my zip code, 02135 for KBB. Gave me $26385. Maybe because we're in the Boston area. I know prices due flucuate between regions.
Ron

The retail KBB is always inflated, the wholesale deflated. Usually, use edmunds and average between sell and buy price and do not overstate condition and you get something close to real. For the acid test, look only at KBB selling price as if dealer bought on trade in. There is no way the dealer gave the seller more than $19000 even playing the sale against the buy.
As for this car, it sounds too high to me. I see XCs cross the block at mid to high teens. There are few with such low mileage, though. I would still expect the 99 to run retail $20, not $24. For example, 2000 R models (like my personal one for sale) run $24-$26 private party sale. A very low mile 2000 XC might be sold retail and certified at $24, not a '99.
I would make an offer much lower than $24 if you like the car and it's still there. Particularly if this car does not fit the dealer's demographic. Try $21.5 with an aftermarket extended warranty and matched tires evenly worn. Be sure they look rotated on a regular basis, not just 2 worn and 2 new. Then, also get the trans fluid power flushed, not just drained (don't take the dealer's word it's done, do it yourself elsewhere if necessary). Enjoy.
