A customer towed in their 1999 V70T5 Manual today.
The cer needs a Clutch bad. The customer declined the work due their interest in a new R. The dealer offered them something like $6,500 for the car on trade. I talked to owner personally and they really wanted like $11,000 for it. He told me to make him an offer for it.
Ok whats the lowest you will take? I asked. He said uh like $11,000 with the bad clutch. He said "Oh its easy for you to fix cause your a tech" But $11,000 as is. Is this guy Whats a good offer?
Car is white with a Taupe gut and has 75,000.
Thanks in advance for any help here.
Hey there. I believe he'd get about $6500 if he traded it into a dealer like you said. Maybe a little more if it's in terrific shape aside from the clutch. You could probably be more generous than a dealership trade-in so 7500 or so I think is fair on that car. JRL probably has a good idea too.

Re: 1999 V70T5 Manual (854T5)

Being the resident expert on these I'll chime in.
I just sold my (perfect) 99T5 5 speed with a ton of mods, VERY quick and really a gorgeous car for a heck of a lot more than that but I already had replaced about everything and was 100% perfect
That being said, there is a 2000 S70T5 5 speed floating around PA (FOR SALE) that can be easily bought for 12K with 68K miles.
There were maybe 5-10 of these made in 2000. It's also White /Tan which personally I like but it seems not to be so popular as this person is having trouble selling her's (woman), so you can qauge it from there.
Big Will is close to the money
(If you want a heads up on that 2000, email or IM me)
JRL

So JRL.....what's the 99 V70 worth? I think that's what the original poster was asking.

Most still have their original equipment.
Also interior condition, any paint work, CONDITION of said paint, etc.
Like the high mile R I just sold, NO ONE could tell from looking at it that it had 135K miles, looks (and drives) more like 30K! You can't go with the fact that he's a tech, You must figure what it would cost for a clutch and that is about $14-1500 installed

If I'm reading this thread correctly, the car in question is a V70 T5M, which, if the numbers for the S70 are any guide, is a pretty rare beast, especially as we move past 1998. Viz., 1998 : 361 cars, 1999 : 197 cars, 2000 : 75 cars
That said, I think the present owner of the car in question is out of his mind if he thinks he's going to see anything beyond the trade-in range if it needs a clutch. I paid $13.5 for my 98 two years ago FROM A DEALER: it had 72K on the clock and it needed nothing.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!

I keep seeing that '00 S70 T5 manual for sale and keep saying to myself "NO NO NO"
If the customer trades for $6500 - what would the dealer sell it to you for since you work there?
Can you swap the Pegs???
Also, isn't 75k a little on the low side for a clutch unless the PO was an animal?

Re: (JRL)

A manual transmission driven properly should last a long time. At the very least 100k miles.
I've driven manual all my life, and I have never had to change my clutch, and I am an aggressive driver. I do not like to ride the clutch, and I hate those people who drive with their foot on top of the clutch. These people do not know how to drive, that is how most clutch burn. There is a foot rest for a reason, when you done shifting remove your foot from the clutch area, and use the foot rest!!!!!!
My 98 ford contour SVT had 170K miles with original clutch, and it would still chirp when I shifted hard into second.
My 2 cents...
Take the Pegs, and see if he'll knock off a $1000...
Ciao
Re: (dicostal)

My first Saab needed a clutch at 90,000 but it was because the pilot bearing seized on the input shaft; my second Saab had >100 on the original cluch, and my Volvo is well >100 altho frankly it doesn't owe me anything at this point.
When I used the Volvo dealer for service I often could detect the faint aroma of burnt clutch lining when I picked the car up.
Animals.
