I am looking at buying a 1999 v70R. It has 100,000 miles. I trust the dealer and they say they have done all the service since new. It has new Belts, new ABS computer, Tires, and some other work done. What are other things i should look for on a car like this? What is likely to go wrong in the next 20,000 miles? Thanks.

Re: 1999 v70R advice (brick racer)

Wrong forum, this is for NEW (04 and newer) R's.
You want to ask in the V & S70 forums (3 down)
What can go wrong? Everything, anything and maybe nothing.
You need to get the actual service records and see WHAT has been replaced. DON'T trust the dealer by his say so, (I'm a dealer BTW).
If nothing has been replaced you're looking at rebuilding most of the suspension at best

Re: 1999 v70R advice (JRL)

You are better off with a 98! A little less power, but much more trouble free.(engine and electrical) Make sure you have the drivetrain fully checked out, by another dealer!!!!!! That is where it will cost you serious cash! Make sure that the service records state that the PCV and Rear Main Seal have been checked or have been replaced, as they will be going soon . As JRL stated make sure that the Nivomats are in good shape.
Cheers!

See....
I told you people would jump down the throats of someone who posted here with a previous generation R. I talked about this a few weeks ago. The administrators of this site need to make the forum the R forum (2004-current) just like all the other models. Shouldn't be that hard to do :

The Forum just says R. If you want to attract new readers, don't jump at them for not knowing the whole history of the forum.

If you look at the name of the forum on the main page, this is what it says:
"R Forum Discussion area for the Volvo S60R & V70R."
Re: 1999 v70R advice (Volvo Grrrr)

And if you'll read the title to this thread, it says, "1999 V70R advice."
This forum IS for discussion of ALL Volvo R models per Swedespeed administration. That fact is not up for debate in this forum.
If anyone has a problem with this policy, please comment in the appropriate location (i.e. NOT this forum), which is The Suggestion Box.
All R Forum participants are encouraged to be mature, polite, and inviting toward anyone who posts in the forum.

Welcome to swedespeed!
On a '99 R with that kind of mileage I would be focused on the bevel gear, air conditioning, and transmission. Have the car gone over by a knowledgeable Volvo mechanic to see that it checks out.
Good luck!
