I have a 1999 V70 T5 and I would like to swap out the automatic transmission with a manual. What kind if any problems might this cause with the ECU. Is it possible to do and not blow codes all the time? My car has an ECU tune, short ram intake, Ferrita exhaust, and 3"" stainless steel down pipe. Also curious about what would be the best manual trany for the car? Any help is very much appreciated. Thank You

Re: 1999 V70 T5 auto to manual Transmission Swap (dpandrew)

Been done
Ask on volvospeed.com
You will need a new ECU or possibly this one can be flashed for a manual.
It's not just a bolt in
You also may want to ask Lucky over at IPD about the ECU

M56 Tranny H or L
Its a Direct bolt in bolt out deal .
You will have to get a reflash from IPD so they can remove the CEL for the No TCU / No Tranny Cell.
Theres a couple threads on VS about it and theres on in the C70 forum also that Loyld wrote up.

Yeah, IPD can reprogram your ecu for you, Lucky helped me out when I did it. It might be tricky if you have someone else's tune and want to keep it, ask them.
Other than that it's a direct bolt in like the chilly one said. Google M56H and M56L to see which gear ratios you want. Besides the gear ratios, the best tranny is the one with the lowest miles on it. Everyone recommends adding an LSD but they're expensive and require you to open everything up. Some people say torque steer is worse with an LSD but I don't know how that would be possible. On the other hand, I don't find torque steer to be a huge problem as it is.
The thread I did on swapping mine is still on the first page in the C70 forum, and should be very similar to your car.
One major difference could be the rear motor mount. I'm not sure when they changed it over but by '02 they had a side mount (right under the driver's side halfshaft) just like the AWD cars. That might be a concern depending on what you get your tranny out of.
I just did mine in November, so if you have any specific questions that you don't want to post here you can PM me or email me.

Actually if its out of a newer car the mount wont matter since you can buy them for either
