First time to the forum: my '99 S 80 t6 is loosing coolant, (condition is worse when a/c is on) temp gauge however says normal but the engine "seems" pretty hot......., at the same time, my AT fluid is burning up. Are the two problems related? Does the Radiator significantly cool the trans fluid? Could a bad thermostat create this problem? I have not found any coolant/water in the engine oil or trans fluid. Any ideas??
Thanks much.
Karl

Re: 1999 s80 cooling? (karlkinflorida)

Hey Karl,
I own a 2000 Volvo S80 T6, purchased in May 2005. From that day, and possibly before it was losing coolant... I had to keep topping off the reservoir every 60 days or so (not a bad leak) -- Had it researched and nothing found...
To my surprise on day I finally pulled out my mats to change them and hello nurse!! The driver side floor was saturated (not bad, but bad enough) with a moist oily substance... sweet smelling a sweet tasting... I had wished it was some juice or something but unfortunately no luck there. Busted Heater Core... offset to the left of the AT hump, once the pan fills up it spills and drips onto the driver side floor. That could be where you¡¦re losing it... I still haven¡¦t changed mine, ($$$$) but hope to have it fixed by October. Currently using an additive that slowed it or stopped it, haven¡¦t had to fill the reservoir in over 2 months.
So all that rambling, basically I¡¦m saying to check your driver side floor ƒº Also, you may notice a white film/fog on your inner windshield that smears when you clean it off, that is the coolant evaporating inside the car.
Hope this helps...
