Dealer says I need a new transmission (or could have this one rebuilt).
After one minute of running, I receive a Trasmission Urgent Service Need message and the trans goes into the third gear limp mode.
Until then, for the first minute, it shifts normally, either auto or manually, going up and down through all four gears.
My only experience with an auto trans is in my 1965 Plymouth. In that car, if the trans is slipping or going, it slips from start up. Ah things were simpler then!
It is odd to me that the 99 S80 will run through the gears fine, then go into limp mode. To me, this makes the problem seem more electrical than mechanical.
Anyone have any experience like this? I need to make a decision rather quickly, as I need the car.
Thanks,
Paul
