Hello everyone. First time poster, first time Volvo owner. I've always been a fan of Volvo's but never owned one up until now. My co-worker/ good friend is a fellow car guy, and Volvo fanatic. He was browsing the old facebook market place and found this poor R needing its life restored. So we went and picked it up for $700 and had no compression. Owner before the person we purchased it from drove it until the timing belt snapped then replaced it only to find out, it was more than just the timing belt. No one was positive on the extent of the damage we were just told, no compression. We decided it was too good of a deal to pass up and we would check out the extent of the damage before deciding to keep it and I restored it the best I can or we would fix it, make it a reliable car and flip it for a few thousand in profit. Thankfully just the intake valves were bent, every single last one of them. The pistons took a couple smacks, but they are okay to re-use for now just to get the car driving and use it as a daily as I build it little by little.
I have every intention on building this car towards 500hp. But main goal is just just get it running currently and fix any and all issues drivetrain wise, put some wheels and coil overs on it, have the front and rear bumpers fixed and resprayed. install a new hood as this car was in a small collision and the hood is unfortunately toasted. They tried some home repair stuff on it to get the hood to latch, but I don't roll that way and would like to keep my hood from flying into my windshield.
Aside from all of that, we will be recording the tear down and rebuild process on this car and posting it on my buddies YouTube channel as we go. If you guys are interested in this, I can post the link to his channel. He posted the video of the initial tear down of the motor down to the block so we could start the process. We probably won't dive extremely deep into this, at least until its ready for a built bottom end, but I do plan on gutting the interior and cleaning the absolute **** out of this car because this interior is bad. I also can't decide whether I have the seats completely professionally reupholstered, or if I want to just put some sort of racing seats for the fronts and reupholster the rear. I'd like to keep the interior mostly as original looking as possible, but if the cost of reupholstering these seats is too high, then some racing seats it is.
I'll post better pictures of the interior later.
Now to post some pictures of the new project and some of the damage.
