New to Volvo ownership. The dealer wants $20K for an exceptional clean 1998 V70R. Is this a good price? Is this car reliable and fun? I live in the mountains of Colorado and I need a car to cover long distances through the mountains.
Thanks for the help!

Re: 1998 V70R w/ 68K miles (kurtshmiddie)

Welcome to Swedespeed.
Might be a little high on price for year & mileage but it all depends on the availablity and demand in your local area. Is it in great shape and does it come with a 100k warranty? There are a few '98 R owners on the list and I'm sure they'll chime in. We love our 2000 V70R. Be sure to keep all four tires matched (same brand, tread depth and tire pressure).

My purchasing situation for you.
Two months ago we purchased a 1998 V70R with 71k for $15,990. We spent an addition $1000 for trany and radiator flush, detailing, 17" rims and tires and rear wing. The car was quite clean but not "as new". The car had new brakes, timing belt, belt tensioner and top engine mount. But, we just had the tensioner replaced at the tune of $500. The guy we replaced the timing belt put the crank pulley on backwards. Because of that the tensioner was not aligned and slowly bent and therefore the belt traveled off. Dumb mistake on his part.
With that said. We are very happy with the car. It looks great, drives great. We feel very secure in our rocket tank. And, being in the home town of IPD, performance parts are a 10 minute drive away.

There you have it.
e

Re: 1998 V70R w/ 68K miles (black R)

I am the original owner of a 1998 V70R. The car has been extremely reliable. Besides the normal maintenance the only repairs required since new have been the emission air pump, one electric door lock mechanism, and a driver's door speaker. I am currently at 72K miles and still enjoy driving especially with the IPD ECU upgrade. I love the expression on the Honda Accord drivers when they get their doors blown off by a Volvo Station Wagon.
