Hi All. Rolled down the driver's side window today for some fresh air and it is now stuck in the down position. I pulled off the door panel to have a quick look and all the wiring seems secure. Unfortunately I don't know much about electrical components. I would like to find out if my window motor is fried or if it is the switch which seems quite loose. How can I check this? Are these components easy to replace? The other three windows work just fine. It is about -20C this time of year so this is not good timing. Any help would be most appreciated! Thanks.

Re: 1998 V70 Window Stuck Down - HELP (Garpo)

Chris...that sucks.
Can you connect the wires to one of the other window switches to determine if it's the switch or rule out the motor?

Yep. I tried to swap the two wiring harnesses to try and see if I could maybe use the two rear switches to control the front windows and vice-versa. No luck.

open the master switch and clean the contacts, should clear it up for a while. it did for me. you'll eventually need to get the master switch replaced though.

Thanks but I have no idea what a "master switch" is.... Could you please point me in the right direction. Also - is there some what that I can at least manually roll up the window as a temporary fix?

to be honest, you'll spend 5 minutes taking out the master window switch, 3 minutes opening it(carefully, of course), 2 minutes cleaning the contacts and 2 minutes putting it back together. i would say with a total of 12 minutes cleaning the contacts it would take certainly less time than effectively rolling up the window. it really isn't hard at all.

Excellent - many thanks for the quick replies. I'll pull off the panel again and open up the white box (master window switch) and clean the contacts. Thanks again - your help is appreciated.

You don't pull off any panels.

You carefully take a bone toll and just pry the switch up and outta there

I'm very happy your efforts got your switch working again. Just today I had my master switch replaced by the dealer for approximately $300.

Not bad.

Since they only cost about $150 RETAIL and it's a 5 minute install, how did you manage to pay $300?

Re: (JRL)

I know, I know... I already had the panel off when I was checking the wiring. No biggie - it takes 2 min's to take off the panel anyway. It works great now - that's all I care about. Thanks again.

if you are going to get a master switch you can get one from erie volvo for about $70 with a life time warranty
Not any more, they want more (even from me). They are running out of them as all theirs have been sold.

JRL, Yep, I'm sure I did courtesy of Volvo of Richardson, Richardson (Dallas), Texas.
