Bought this car a couple of weeks ago from Colorado. Had spent the better part of 3 months looking for the perfect R (V70 or 850). I had a sedan for a little while a couple of years ago that I bought off a kid. It was a fun car but wasn't that nice overall. I finally found a really well-maintained 850 R wagon and drove it 1,200 miles down here to Houston. Car made it here in 24 hours like a champ. Long story short, my grandfather passed away fairly unexpectedly a few days ago and he left my with our 1987 C10 383 stroker we built together a couple of years ago. I already have a Cadillac and this Volvo was going to be my second car but I can't justify 3. I have the Cadillac for sale on other forums so whichever one goes first. This isn't a sob story, don't worry....just the facts.

Just had the 120k maintenance ($390.36) by the same guy in Colorado (Bruce at Volvos by Jeff) who has been working on it since 40k miles. New back Brembo rotors with Volvo OEM pads and correct shims and lso replaced the exhaust clamp ($436.21). Both of these things literally happened this past week. The car is mechanically perfect as it sits. Professional Volvo Service here in Houston did the brake work (shop was recommended by the forum members). Anyone that would like can call Richard and ask about my car. He is a super good guy, was really impressed with the condition of the car and we talked for a couple hours about Volvos (his S60 is amazing). He doesn't know about what just happened with my grandfather though.

Exterior - paint is in great shape with no scratches, two very small door dings that I would have to point out to someone. No dents or rust either. Clear bra on front to protect from chips. Glass is perfect all the way around. Weather stripping and bumper pads are all in perfect condition. The only negative about the car in my opinion is the previous owner destroyed the front lip of the R bumper on a steep driveway in Colorado (the wires and plugs for the fogs are still there in perfect condition waiting for some fogs). He couldn't locate a good R bumper so he replaced with a new stock bumper. Tint all the way around and a fade on the windshield.

Interior - best part. Almost immaculate. There is a little piece of broken plastic around the back passenger's trim that goes around the door pull. That's it. Even has a perfect 3rd row seat from the factory. Also has full spare in back, perfect condition.

Wheels - 17" Titans wrapped with 205/45ZR17 Continental Extreme Contact DWS (these were put on in Feb 2012 for $685.30, only 3,000 miles on them) has a full transferable warranty from Discount Tire. One of the Titans has some rash but it's nothing horrible. The other 3 are in good condition.

BEST PART - I have records of all maintenance for the past 10 years and since 40,000 miles, all from the same independent Volvo shop in Denver that has been operating for almost 40 years (Volvos by Jeff). It's literally a stack of service records. The only modification made are painted calipers, K&N and the IPD skid plate to protect underside of engine and transmission.

Let me know if there is anything I missed. PM for number and calls or emails are welcome, but obviously I'm not entirely pumped about the idea of selling this car so I don't want to reminisce about how awesome 850's are. The whole situation sucks. Every little button and feature on this car works and is runs and drives perfectly.

I'm asking $6,200. If anyone was looking for a perfect 850R. This is the one. Nothing needs to be done. I don't believe there could be too many other R's out there that are cleaner overall.

Very clean car indeed, good luck with the sale!

That may be the only thing I dislike about my state. We have some ridiculously designed driveways, or even bumps on the road. That's why I'm not putting a lip on my car.

Fantastic car.

Quick question - what is that covering the spare wheel? I have a plywood cutout instead of that...

If this car is still available in Late Oct (unlikely, I know) I'm gonna fly down to Houston and drive it all the way back to Colorado. What a beaut!

Thanks for the compliments guys. I spent forever scouring every online listings available....across the nation.

I had sourced an R bumper but when all this crap happened with my grandfather I let it get away. I've got Richard @ Professional Volvo Service here in Houston keeping an out for me. I forgot to add the only modification the car has is the painted calipers, K&N and the IPD Aluminum Skid Plate. I purposely was only looking for cars that had not been chipped or altered. Not saying there is anything wrong with that - I'm just into the car itself than the performance (I would have got a 5.0 Mustang if I wanted to scream around the neighborhood, not to mention, now I have a stroked truck). And unfortunately, it seems like the more mods a car has....the more likely it may have been abused in other aspects. This one truly just putted around the freeway in Colorado for the past 12 years.

Not sure exactly, it's like a small piece of padding under the carpet. Looks stock. I imagine it has to be....the last two owners (whom I both met when I picked the car up....they were friends) were meticulous about keeping things OEM.

Very clean car indeed, good luck with the sale!

Yeah, you could tell it killed the guy but he didn't know much about the online presence for Volvo or online specialist forums. I checked myself and the connections for the fogs are still underneath and in good condition...ready to be plugged in.

Very nice 855R

Great looking car. I think you should have some interested parties out there for this car.

I did want to ask how do you like the Continentals on the 850? I have to replace my tires on my wagon and didn't know anyone who was using these on an 850 wagon.

I love them. I spent an afternoon before making the drive home running around Rocky Mountain National Park and it was a blast. That being said, I had never driven the car obviously with anything else on them....so I have nothing really to compare it to. When I was getting the brakes done, Richard said he loved those tires. Said a lot of people knew about them in harsher weather states but unfortunately they hadn't caught on down here in Texas.

Oh my. So clean, but so far.
I'm replying specifically to yours but it is more of a notice for all that I don't mind and have worked with auto shippers before. It's a small pain but I don't mind going through that process with someone if they are the right buyer. I just want it to go somewhere where it won't get dogged....

That's the hope. But I'd be foolish not to consider it. Either way, one or the other needs to go. I've got a couple of offers but they were of the typical "850 R's are typically sold for this amount......" kind of thing. They weren't too far off the mark though, so hopefully within a week or so someone will step to the plate. I need to get the Cadillac detailed and buffed because my area is a much more likely sell than an internet forum for that. Not exactly as strong of a specialist market there. So maybe something will happen on that end...

Got some good leads and it looks like this may be sold soon. Thanks guys. Also want to mention that I have a clean, no wreck, well documented CarFax and Autocheck I can scan and send for anyone else seriously interested. They were ran about a month ago but you are more than welcome obviously to check the gallery in the post and run the VIN yourself!

The cover on the spare tire is correct for a 97, it's what I had in mine.

Very clean car, a brand new, painted R bumper would be around $450-$600 depending on what your local body shop would charge to paint it. I'd also recommend changing that coolant overflow tank, it's $36 of cheap insurance.

Beautiful R, it's cool to see one in such nice shape.
