I almost jumped into the '91 240 SE discussion (I have a 245), but I'm more curious about a 244 I purchased last week. The rear badge includes a "Limited" badge next to the 240 emblem, and it includes the following: Chrome wheel well trim (this is wide trim), the same alloys as my SE, along with the black body trim. Besides 5-speed manual and sunroof, it includes cloth interior, the same wood dash trim as the '93 Classics, and a rear spoiler. Really, a spoiler. The lady I bought it from (2nd owner) said the orig. owner had it customized in Sweden, shipped to California, where it was modified for CA emissions. Really, the most unique "stock" 244 I've ever seen. A small brass plaque on the dash appears to be someone's signature.
Nowhere I search can I find ANY reference to a "Limited" 240 like this. I'm MOST curious about the dash plaque.
Oh, yeah; dealer maintenance manual with stamps current to the mile; aside from looking a little like "Pimp My Ride", I'm thrilled.
Does anyone have experience with a "Limited" 240 model? I will attempt to post pictures, and would appreciate any historical references you might have. Thanks!
This is something I've never seen...but the "Limited" badge seems to have been produced in the Volvo font of the time...as for the mods, I certainly hate the chrome wheel arch trim and the spoiler on the back is way out of place on a modest 240. The wood trim looks different than the wood found in the Classic. Your's also has the accessory leather boot that was found only on earlier "GL" models and is rather rare seeing most "GL" cars were automatics. You don't have the small clock, tachometer combo though. I think the taillight filler was an accessory during the 240 run.
I'd love to know who's signature that is...maybe the mod guy in Sweden. Anyway, unique indeed...desirable? That's up for debate.

Oooh; boy, I'm glad I'm not sensitive about my new-found project. I guess I'll mark ACD off my distribution list if I decide to try and sell it. (Making a bit of fun; actually, I don't care for the chrome wheel trim, either). Actually, on the road, the spoiler makes it look a bit "Beamer-Ish".
I've heard from a veteran Volvo dealer rep in TN that the "Limited" designation was only on customized European models; still trying to find out about that signature; it's curious. I've contacted the moderator listed for the 240 Limited Edition Register of Volvo Club of America, but have received no reply. Thanks for the post!

Re: (ACD)

No offense taken, ACD! These bricks' beauty is always in the eye of he beholder. I got the air converted today and working, so I don't even think I'm gonna get to drive it any more. My wife digs this 5-speed; I've just got to keep her in tires. Thanks!

i've seen alot of the 240 limited models. When I was in Sweden last year, on vacation with my family, also buy loads of parts for my 245 SE, I saw a few in the Bilia parking lot. Bilia is a Swedish Volvo-Renualt Dealer-Chain. Anyways, if you want to see alot of volvo 240-260 club members pics of cars like yours here is the link:
http://www.volvo240-260register.nl/index_uk.htm
