Maroon/black vinyl
148K miles
Body is EXCELLENT, very straight, (no rust anywhere) and when detailed should look fantastic
Interior is a 10!
Automatic, P windows, no sunroof
Right now it needs a tune up or something, it's running rough but whatever it is,
it will be fixed
I just installed a new timing belt and tensioner, New oil and filter change.
A/C does NOT work. If it's something simple, I will fix it, if not the buyer car.
It is running fine now. It has a squeal, we found out it's probably an alternator bearing, alternator works fine so I'm not touching it.
It has 15" (optional wheel size) Blizzak snows on it, with almost new tread, summer tires would be needed.
It also has IPD SWAY BARS on!
It has a brand new PA state inspection sticker on so brakes are fine as is the suspension.
A couple of quick shots

Price below

Re: 1990 240 GL wagon (JRL)

Installing a timing belt and tensioner (due), a small service and that's it!
(The "roughness" smoothed out, it was just cold)
It has a brand new PA state inspection along with an SRS light and the AC is out.
It drives very nicely on the road, quite smooth.
I'm not spending any time and energy on this 240, it's an easy and cheap car to work on so anything it may need should be fairly cheap to do.
Sale price, as is with the above work done and fully detailed;
$2695
If I advertise this nationally, I think it will go in a day or two and I will if not sold in a couple of days

Re: 1990 240 GL wagon (chromedome)

Found the fuel gauge problem and maybe ALL the other issues.
I knew it needed an alternator it is VERY noisy) what I didn't know is that it wasn't charging!
I just bought one, this alone may solve many of the other weird issues.
The AC DOES have some freon left in it and may be as simple as new (conversion) o-rings and fittings, fill it with R134a and be done with it!
Hopefully I can get all this done this weekend and have an answer for everyone

If it has R12 in it, it would be better to top off with that than convert. The conversions don't work very well. I paid $60/pound about a year ago for R12, and I think it took 2 pounds.

Re: 1990 240 GL wagon (dcooledge)

Eh, we converted mine to R134a maybe 5 years ago and it's been ice cold ever since... don't think we've had to top off. It's all about who does the work, in this case.
Seems like a good price for a solid 240. If anyone is desperate for a second opinion, I can probably make the trip out from New Jersey when I go home next week... it's kinda out of the way but do-able (2 hours or so). Let me know.

Quote, originally posted by JRL »

...The AC DOES have some freon left in it and may be as simple as new (conversion) o-rings and fittings, fill it with R134a and be done with it!
Hopefully I can get all this done this weekend and have an answer for everyone

Fingers crossed, this is the route I would take with the AC. My 244 had a leaking compressor, but I found a rebuilt one with the same warranty as a new one, for about $168. A simple "conversion" (o-rings, etc, no "drier" or other major parts) & R134 & ice cold air has been blowing ever since.
Very reasonably priced, nice condition, even "as is". These cars/wagons are in high demand for those who are familiar w/ the rock solid 240 series & this one will sell (if not already sold) QUICKLY! This is EXACTLY what I was looking for (mileage, condition, WAGON!) when I stumbled upon my 244 here last year.
Good luck w/ the AC & the sale .

Re: 1990 240 GL wagon (Taleof2Bricks2)

Installing a new alternator "removed" the SRS light and the noise, nice and quiet now
A R134 kit and some "juice" made the AC nice and cold.
One more thing to fix and what's left is VERY minor stuff

Re: 1990 240 GL wagon (JRL)

Definitely sold to a friend of mine
This one turned out so nice, it's amazing.
It cleaned up unbelievably, the dull oxidized paint came right up.
I Seafoamed it today then drove it out 30 miles to where new ball joints and a muffler are being installed.
Smooth and quiet and everything now works, a total oxymoron for a 240!
