Hello,
I have a 1979 242GT that was restored aprox. 10 years ago...This is a real GT not a clone.......she has a 1986 740 turbo motor--the motor has approx.40k on it while the car has 79k. The car was repainted red (looks way better than the original silver) and has a black cloth interior. 2.5" exhaust from turbo back, flowmaster muffler, 5spd (5th gear is the electric overdrive), 850 stereo in glove compartment with 6 disc cd changer in trunk, intercooled. The intank fuel pump is new, the spark plugs are new, the fuel filter is new, the tires are at 90%, the drive shaft is the heavier one off of a turbo, the fuel pump is fairly new, custom wheels, new battery.........the interior is in Excellent/New condition.....
The imperfections I have found are aas follows. Car needs a windshield ($200 installed), a few rust bubbles coming under paint (dime sized), some rust by rear bumper, their is some rust underneath but not bad. Hoods a little faded I think it just needs a good wax. The brake lights, turn signal, horn, wont work, I checked the fuses, I'm not sure what it is, cant be difficult since it worked just fine before, a/c needs to be charged, the car ran great until recently with the Air Mass Meter going bad (I will replace this) and fuel pump(I will replace this as well), some of the hoses need to be replaced, the car needs some other minor detail work.....The Volvo is in excellent shape for a 30 year old car. Even though this still needs some work it would cost a lot more to buy a beater and get her into the condition this one is currently in than what I'm asking.
(When restoring or reconditioning a car please be careful of "expert mechanics" and how you use their services--though they are excellent at diagnosing the problem they can make a $500 job into $3000 easily---I was quoted recently approx. $350 on the air mass meter--I can do this for $40 with a warranty)
This is a beautiful one of a kind rare car with less than 22000 ever made and only from 1979 to 1981----Wouldn't take to much work to start taking her to shows or if you just want to drive something different, instead of all the typical look alike Hondas/Nissans/Toyotas etc.
