Question, I am having a rebuild on my brake booster done and the mechanic says everything look good except he is unsure of the metal clip. He is unsure what it odes. Does any one know? I'd like to be able to have this booster repaired. Thank in advance.

Oh, is that what holds the two halves of the booster together? Where are you located? I had a heck of a time getting a replacement/rebuilt booster for a '71 142. I don't know if it's the same or different than yours. I ultimately found a place in California that adapted one from a Mercury to fit the Volvo. The results a very good.

I am in Florida. Can you tell me more about substituting a Mercury brake booster for a Volvo? I'd like to know more. I am having difficulty getting my brake booster rebuilt and I can't find anything available.

Give Power Brake Exchange a call in San Jose. http://pwrbrake.com Tell them what you have and they should be able to help you. Rebuild parts are generally unavailable for the older volvos, and 9 out of 10 of the places I called couldn't rebuild or supply new even though they said they did. There area couple of places in Europe that say they can sell you a new or rebuilt unit, but they are $300+. I think I paid $175 which included a surcharge because I didn't have a matching core.
