I have a 1974 164e (the last one that anyone has seen in these parts for several years apparently) and I have been working on a transmission fluid leak from the bottom of the car. The leak seems to be coming from a pan with an "x" on it on the bottom of the car; I took all of the bolts out of it that I could see, but the stupid thing still won't come off! I've tried prying it up (difficult because of a lack of space), hammering it off, cutting the gasket off... I just can't get it to budge! It looks like someone has used the red RTV silicone gasket maker on it at some point, and that may be why it's stuck on there soooo tight. Is there a trick to getting this piece off; have I missed something? Or is the red RTV stuff just holding on like glue?
