Last time I had my 69 164 ignition/steering lock out I noticed the lock cylinder was cracked on the heel side. Being in a hurry to get it back together and sick and tired of twisting off keys when the tumblers hit the crack in the 180° position, as a field expedient I took it apart and dumped all the pins and springs and put it back together. Works VERY smoothly now and an uncut key blank is somewhat stiffer also.
I suspect the Department of Homeland Security doesn't approve......
