Re: 17,614 XC70, V70, and S80 models recalled for faulty cooling fan! ([email protected])

Very interesting. Thank you for notifying us.
Even though I have an '07, its surprising that these second gen cars have so many issues. I know that on my car, there was a recall for a windshield wiper issue already. Plus there are lots of other issues with these cars that don't have official recalls (T6 owner's having screeching, etc.)
But even so, I enjoy my car even with its defects.

so many issues? That's new to me. I always heard from service advisers that first generation had so many issues. The actual generation is somewhat reliable.
I have nothing negative to say about my car. Even my PZeros are lasting 21K miles

We'd better keep a close eye on our temperature gauges.
Hey, where the heck . . . ?
Thanks Volvo!

Re: 17,614 XC70, V70, and S80 models recalled for faulty cooling fan! (MAC1LSR)

Ditto on Zamo's comment. I think my '09 has been the most trouble free Volvo we've owned. But I've got to agree with MAC1LSR, I would have liked to see a temp. gauge as in my S60s on the current beast!

If it's just a "SOFTWARE PROGRAMMING ERROR," why are they replacing the whole fan control module? Is the software something that can't be reprogrammed using service department equipment?

Re: 17,614 XC70, V70, and S80 models recalled for faulty cooling fan! (02s60t5)

Having had a P2 S80 T6 that I bought new, and a '07 S80 V8, my '02.5 S80 T6 had about $80k worth of warranty/service work from 0 miles to 80k including a new transmission. My '07 S80 V8, before it was totaled, had zero problems from 0-5k miles in 2 months, except for a false alarm with a white piece of rubber that I saw dangling under the car.
I would buy another EUCD platform Volvo in a heartbeat.

Ya. Most people don't have major issues - its the small stuff like rattles here and there or static on the iPod input, etc.

Nick, I am sure you've meant 8K not 80K? Twice the worth of a car?

For starters, two new cats, new transmission, blown turbo (at 30k miles), charge pipe cracking, various bushings and rubber parts, every motor and transmission mount replaced at least twice, electrical issues, etc.
That car is what turned me onto leasing.

I've had 2 fans replaced so far with just this issue. I wonder if I actually have a good one now, or if I still need to have the recall work done? Is there a list of VINs affected?

Re: 17,614 XC70, V70, and S80 models recalled for faulty cooling fan! (njb8199)

Wow, Nick,
I am definitely on very opposite side of the "trouble" spectrum.
I do not keep all the receipts, but my recollection is that I did not "break even" on my extended warranty @ $2300 till its end @96K miles. I bought extra 4 years/48K miles at 48K mark.
The biggest ticket item was vacuum break booster for $700 and some front suspension part replacement for $500, and a few really minor repairs like front driver door solenoid.
My subframe bushings were replaced under original warranty around 10K miles, and survived all the way till the "accidental death" at 146K.
Out of pocket, after 96K - only consumables and a couple of minor replacements for upper arm bushings.
As I keep saying my 00 S80 2.9 was the second best reliable car in my life, after F-150. All Hondas, Toyotas, Nissans and Mazdas I had required more attention.
And since than - 04 and 05 XC90s are/were virtually trouble free, and 08 S80 3.2 has NO issues period.

Every other Volvo I've had, other than that '02.5 S80 T6, were trouble free as well.
I'd say the best Volvo I've ever had was my '04 XC90 2.5T and then after that a tie between my 1991 940SE and current 2008 XC90 V8 Executive. The 3.2 was bulletproof as well but sooooooo SLOW!
