Has anyone else noticed that the 12V outlets in our cars seem to be a bit too shallow?
It seems that all of the accessories I have barely stay in or pop out right away because they cannot go in deep enough....dunno if that makes sense.
Basically, my issue here is that I cannot insert my objects deep enough in order to stay in and provide uninterrupted performance

Re: 12V Power Outlet Too Small? (LennyQ)

I went outside and connected my tomtom charger into the front 12v outlet and it was fine. The 12v outlet in the back was crazy, when I tried to pull out the charger I couldn't... I seriously thought that the outlet or my charger were about to break. I had 2 pull the hell out of it!

My Garmin charger is actually one of the few ones that fits OK.
My radar detector's pops out with the slightest nudge, and I bought a 1-to-2 12V splitter that doesn't stay in at all and has to be held pushed down to stay in.

Yep, I have the same problem with the 12v socket by the cup holders in front. I have my radar detector mounted up high by the rear view mirror and the cord constrantly is pulling on the plug and has to be pushed back in. I just thought it was me because this has not been mentioned in the 4 years of following this forum.

thats weird....mine feels like the exact OPPOSITE!!! everytime i put something into it, and go to take it out its so damn tight that it rips that whole trim piece up (trac control, socket) out of its clips and dangles...its horrible!! now everytime i want to take out something, i have to hold down the trim piece in order for it not to pop out

Has anyone managed to replace the outlets with a Radioshack or any other generic one?

I was fed up with my power cable for the GPS always popping out, so I just hardwired it

Re: (crossie)

My garmin plug in barely sits in the front 12v and when i shift ill accidently bump it and pop it out on occasion. It is quite annoying. Wish they were a bit deeper. Most accesories have long plug ins so not sure why they would make them a bit deeper.

I've had 1 to 2 and 1 to 3 splitters, both come out easily. Hardwired my radar and Garmin GPS. My cellphone charger sits pretty well but I think my laptop charger drops out pretty easily at the back socket. Only the radar is more vital as it doesn't come with backup power (battery). The rest simply fall back to backup power when the socket drops out and just requires a simple nudge to push the socket back in.

Re: (fone)

Finally took so pictures of my hardwired GPS / radar. Hated the clutter for the GPS / radar that runs up my console.
