I was installing a 12v Cargo outlet yesterday and after I had run the wires from the rear fuse box to the right hand side of the cargo area I found a bundled pair of wires. The wires were directly below where the cargo outlet is installed. However, the two wires were black and red and were running forward. Whereas the power outlet I was installing (according to the Volvo directions) was run from the MA1 relay and fuse 16 in the rear fuse box (wires were blue and black).
Does anyone know what these wires are for? OBTW the connector on the end was an exact match to the 12v outlet. Also the fuse list is blank for position 16, and shows position 7 as the cargo area 12v. I used 16 and it is working fine....Thoughts?
I finished installing the wiring according to the Volvo directions and it works fine, but I am wondering if I did alot of extra work for nothing.
Thanks,
Re: 12V Cargo Outlet (JAGMAN)

Not positive but there is a bundle in my car that appears to be for the remote/radio part of the oncall cellphone package (bundle of wires, small SMA antenna connector)
Ummm, didn't your R already come with the cargo outlet? Mine did but darn, I got every damned option I could buy except the cellphone...LOL

Great timing, my 12v cargo thing is waiting at the dealer for me to pick up.

I thought the rear cargo outlet was standard on the V70R's, perhaps that's why you were pre wired?
I had to run the wires for my S60, and they did indeed go to fuse 16, and it's listed as such in the manual. I'm guessing the wagons might be wired differently.

The weird part is that these wires are in the same area and had the same connector as the 12V outlet. Maybe someone who had the 12V outlet installed at the factory could look behind it and see what color the wires are. Then if you could look at the rear fuse box and tell us if the #16 slot is filled and in use for the 12V outlet. That should tell us one way or the other if the wires are for something else or if now I can have two outlets. In any case......
Thanks,

On my 2005 V70R, with the factory CARGO outlet the wires are RED and BLACK.

Looking at the wiring diagram it looks like if you wire with your blue lead from the RMA1 relay as you describe, it will be a switched outlet. Mine is hot all the time via the RED lead, and there is a prompt on the DIM to remind you there is current being being drawn from the CARGO outlet. That is detected via a shunt which connects to the Rear Electronic Module and it is CAN from there to the DIM. It is displayed upon turning off the key.

Re: 12V Cargo Outlet (vintagemilano)

My install followed the directions and it all worked fine (no download), with the exception of not being constantly powered. It only works with the key in position II or higher. I can't figure out why. The directions don't mention a software download as many other directions do, so I don't think that it is required.
