That's interesting .... and confusing. I thought the 112 mph limit was introduced only about 1-2 years ago. Maybe that was the case for Germany only and in other countries that happened earlier?
In this case one could argue, that it might not have been so important to protect the "old" limits (in the US for example), because going over 112 mph is illegal anyway and won't go unnoticed.
In Germany on the other hand it wouldn't attract attention, if a new Volvo goes over 112 mpg and that could be a reason for making the manipulation more difficult - maybe?

Yes VDash can remove the speed limiter. It's one of their "basic" config changes, paddle shifters being the other. The cars were limited before the corporate commitment to 112, to 130mph as my 2019 is. From a technical standpoint, changing the limit is just writing a different value in the right place in the CEM. Of course getting that process done is why you need VDash, but that's all there is to it. I can only imagine what some hardware solution would be doing to try to work around that to raise the limit, that sounds complicated...
I'd agree. One of those things they'd have to be looking for, and likely would need a specific reason to take time to bother looking. You have to dig through reading the variant codes of the car from the readout in VIDA and also need to know what you are looking for. If you are set up to change configs, it's also easy to change your config back to original for dealer service visits.

Darn... the 112 limiter was the one thing letting me know I could outstretch the newer cars... guess I really do need to add more HP....
No need to bother with DiCE, use Volvo VoE adapter, use with a regular old network cable from the VoE to your laptop. The SPA Volvos do support DiCE for some backward compatibility, but the DiCE adapter is way more expensive for a clone, so use that only if you happen to have one. VoE clones are cheap, I had some problems, only with VDash, using a clone so maybe spring for the official Volvo VoE.

Don’t want to bring up an old thread but did anyone actually manage to get the PIN and how easy is that task?
So I bought a VOE adapter from Amazon. I tried to use it with VDASH, but my laptop kept looking for a network and wouldn't pick up the connection with the OBD. I'm wondering if it is because the VOE adapter is using the RJ45 (ethernet) connector. Are you supposed to connect directly to the ethernet connection in the laptop? Or use one of those ethernet to USB adapter, then plug into one of the USB ports?
Any of the "DoIP" tools (for Volvo: VIDA, VDash, OrBit) are the same, will use any available ethernet (network) port available, built in, USB adapter, whatever you got. That's what make DoIP (Diagnostics over IP) so great!

The 112mph limiter is a little bit...limiting ;-) Just raising it up to see what an ER T8 S/V60 could do in the 1/4 mile "unrestrained" would be kinda neat!

I think the why is pretty evident, 112mph is the corporate limit for all cars to meet the "nobody dies in a Volvo" goal. They weren't going to change that policy for a model to maximise a particular performance benchmark, and one that probably matters lilttle to their customers at that.
You make a good point, in my mind it's gotta be worth a tenth! I supposed the "soft approach" to the limiter may be more impactful than the simple calculation that assumes a binary approach to the max speed. But you might be quite right there. Needs someone to test it ;-)

It is the soft approach. I've hit the limiter many times. It's not like hitting a wall, it just feathers out. It's easy to hit the limiter in this car. It's so powerful, and smooth, and quiet that a quick stab of the throttle from, say 130-140km/h puts you at the limiter in just a few seconds. This would be a good standing 1/2 mile or 1 mile car too.
Last Friday was the first test and tune night at our local drag strip, and if the wife and I weren't having adult beverages by the time we found that out, we would have take the V60 out there and broken a few hearts. We will later this year though.
