Just had my local shop do the '100k investment' so many talk about on here...

Spending $5k cdn on the xc felt SO much better than $50k on a new car...

We love this thing, so it wasn't to hard of a decision...

Here's what was done.

Replaced:
Power Steering Pump,
Drive Belt,
Idler Pully and tennsioner assembly,
Valve cover gaskets and grommets,
upper and lower intake gaskets,
spark plugs,
PCV hoses,
fuel pressure sensor,
PS Fluid,
Front lower control arms both sides;
front brake pads and rotors, service calipers,
4 wheel alignment

Drives so much nicer now... Feels brand new.

Glad to hear this. We should love our car and it will love us back!

Wait, the implication here is your decade-old XC is now better than a '18 SPA truck after $5K (CDN) worth of parts & labor?

Ha... Zero implications at all.

Just saying I was on the verge of calling it a day on our xc and just buying something new... But to even get remotely close to the luxury and ride of these things, I'd be spending $50k+... For something new..

I just couldn't mentally do it... Then I realized we've spent mostly nothing on the xc since we bought it 3 years ago... So a small investment in it now was easy to get such a quality ride that will keep going for years to come...

Doing some basic maths... Including private purchase price. It approx $75 a month in ownership costs... Not including gas and insurance... Significantly less than a new car monthly...

And even this assessment.. Is only a commentary on what works for me...
