I am getting my 7,500 service done at Stillman on Friday. I live in Colorado, but am spending a summer in PA. Thought Stillman will be good, as they post on the board. I have fog lights installed, but need to get them activated - i.e. I need to get a software download for them.
Does anyone live in the PA area and know if there is a cheaper place to go? I'd also like to get the trip computer lever installed and enabled, but don't know if I should have that done at the same time - I think that saves me a charge for computer use, but it's still alot of money if the download itself is over $100.
Any tips?
jetcat33

Re: $100 for a software download? (jetcat33)

Other dealer representation on the forum has stated in the past that the download to activate the fogs should cost about $25, but that specific pricing is up to the labor policies of each dealer. The few other people that have posted on their experiences re: adding fogs seem to have ended up paying somewhat less than $100 to have them activated. Overall that seems at the high end, then. A few phone calls to other area dealers would seem to get you the information you need.

Hey jetcat. Where in PA are you staying? I had the same service performed on my S40 at Allentown Mazda-Volvo. I think they charged me $25 for the software and half an hour of labor, which was around $30 or $40. I'm not completely sure if that's accurate, because I had it done about a year ago, but I'm sure that it was less than $100. I think if you're more toward the center of the state, there are a few places with cheaper labor rates, if I remember correctly.

Yeah, I guess I should use the Yellow Pages. I've just found it hard to learn about a dealer's reputation from that book. For some reason, it just doesn't tell me more than the phone number. Sheesh, they should change that!

It really would be nice if you could go to a site and get input from people that have required the same service... If only there was such a place.

Re: $100 for a software download? (v50t5black)

I recently had to replace the ignition key for my V50 and discovered that a) its extremely expensive ($188, not included silver key), and b) a significant part of that expense is the "download" and "labor". The labor alone was $100.
$100 to install software to my new key work. Makes me glad that all other work I have done on this car will be under warranty. Hope you can do better than me.

So, after all, I went to get my service done at Stillman's in West Chester PA. Getting the fog light software download done was only $75 alltogether. That was okay.
In all, I thought Stillman had great service! The places I go to in Denver aren't half as good. Very friendly! I had to wait a few hours, so they dropped me off at a Starbucks and came back to get me when the car was done!
jetcat33
