near where I live, they do "street legal drag" night sometimes. The track is a1/8 mile course...not 1/4 mile.
is it really very helpful to know what your likely 1/4 mile time would be by doing a 1/8 mile track....or on a car like ours, that launches poorly...then starts to haul a$$ once it's at full boost....really run poorly on the 1/8 track, but fare better in the 1/4 mile.
i was thinking of going to the la county raceway to 1/4 mile my car...mostly just for fun...but in san diego they do the street legal drag thing...lots closer and more convenient location....
just wondering.

Re: 1/8 mile drag question (23109VC)

1/8 tracks are awesome.
1/8 tracks are, in my opinion, excellent training tools. If you want to get good 1/4 mile times, you've GOT to get the 1/8 down to a science. Typically, you can do a lot more runs at a 1/8 track vs. 1/4 track, so that is very helpful with the learning process. You want to focus on getting a consistent reaction time, and also getting a consistent launch (which will then give you consistent 60 ft. times, etc.). A 1/4 mile track is really just an 1/8 mile track, except you run through an extra gear or two (none of which will make up for mistakes made at the start/launch).
I would much rather go to a 1/8 track than a 1/4 because you just get more for your money. Besides, the 1/8 will more closely resemble the kind of illegal stop-light racing you'll do elsewhere

Re: 1/8 mile drag question (23109VC)

The formula to take an 1/8th mile E.T. to a 1/4 mile E.T is take the 1/8th E.T. and X by 1.55 for a manual and X by 1.57 for an auto. Example: you get a 9.0 sec in the 1/8th and you have a 5 or 6 speed car you take 9.0 X 1.55 = 13.95 in the 1/4. It is a pretty close approx . . .
Hope this helps!
