We have an '07 XC70 with the Nav option. Like it. It works fine. 18 months ago we purchased an '08 S80 T6 with Nav. Big mistake. The rocket scientists across the pond decided that, in order to promote even more safe driving, many of the Nav's functions would be made not available while the vehicle is in motion. One of those functions is changing the destination. OK, so most of us morons wouldn't be that stupid to do that while driving (WOULD WE??? ), but the front seat passenger certainly should be capable of doing so without compromising too much safety, eh? But I digress....
My question to this group is - did this get changed for the '09 model's Nav system - specifically the XC90? I ask because we may be looking at getting into an XC90 and turning in the XC70 at lease end - this August. If the factory Nav in the '09 (and 2010) XC90s is crippled like the Nav in the '08 S80, THAT is an option I'd sooner not spend the kilo-bucks for.

Re: 09 XC90 Nav Question (W6JHB)

I can change the destination while driving. My wife always alters destination from the remote. No problems that I know of. Works just like my '04 R.

Re: 09 XC90 Nav Question (W6JHB)

My '08 XC90 can change the destination on the move. I do not have the latest update, only the one that came with the vehicle, mfg'ed in Feb '08.
I wouldn't be to hard on the folks in Sweden. They only respond to some marketing type at Volvo U.S.A. who has made the determination the OEM NAV system be aligned in a specific way. Some decisions are based on legal grounds, others at Volvo have no understanding at all of how their NAV systems are used and believe their decisions are good ones when in fact they are not. POIs - or lack there of - are a case in point.

You'd think the hardware / software / firmware would be the same across the product line. Our S80 T6 can't do it, and there were several other S80 owners in the forums ticked about theirs, too!

Quote, originally posted by JimJa43 »

...others at Volvo have no understanding at all of how their NAV systems are used and believe their decisions are good ones when in fact they are not. Let's hope the same person / group doesn't decide that adjusting cabin temperature, radio stations, or sound system volume level is too dangerous to perform while the vehicle is in motion!!!
