I have a strange. "grumbling/rattling" noise that sounds like it is coming from under the passenger front. It only happens when there is little load on the drive train (driving straight whit little to no gas applied to the engine or when coasting as well as between shifts. It seems worse when cold but there is no ill handling involved and doesn't much matter if you are turning or not. The axle feels tight when jacked up and moved back and forth but I am having a hell of a time figuring out what it is. new axle is $550 so I dont want to buy it unless I am reasonable sure that is the problem. I thought it might be a catalytic converter vibrating/rattling but it only occurs when moving and and only when you are not putting much strain on the drive train. I checked the motor mount (the one under the engine on the passenger side but it looked ok when I removed it. any thoughts on the problem?

Thanks in advance,

P.S. it has been doing this since I bought it 3 years ago with 99k miles on it.
