Can we get a folding option with those?

Re: '07 Mirrors - let the retrofit challenge begin (ForceReconTrojan)

I think Volvo missed an opportunity here. A flasher could have been very cleanly integrated into the outer black trim, directly beneath the painted cover on the existing mirror design (which I find to be quite attractive). A nice smoke tint on the plastic and it would almost disappear when not in use. Then again, I much prefer the subtle side indicators that are currently located on the fenders.
I agree... fugly

Not me ... I am working on another mirror mod you inspired me to do. MB did a similar thing to the SLK when I owned and early one ... they DELETED the fender mounted marker, and put it up in the mirror. Just like on my SLK, on an early R, you will have both ... may look like a disco light show unless you do the fender delete as well.

The only model I can see this working on is Black; and then only if the flasher glass was smoked black to match.
Otherwise it ranks up there with the toyota style plastic dash in a Merc 200 series for worst luxury car styling item IMO.

What's the point of having another blinker there when you have one in the front quarter panel? Are they doing away with this? For me, it would look like I have a 18 wheeler with 6 turn signals.

Re: '07 Mirrors - let the retrofit challenge begin ([email protected])

I have to agree with most folks - this one isn't worth the effort. Besides, I see no reason to have a mirror mounted turn sig that is visible only from the front or side.
Now if they had a "Signal Mirror" option that had the LED signal in the mirror glass so that it can be seen from behind and can be seen by the driver of the car 2 cars back, then I would go for that - can't see it unless it is blinking, and then it provides a functional safety improvement. I know from experience (25 years in metro DC traffic) that mirror glass turn signals are more visible than either the rear signals or the fender mounted repeaters.

The older mirrors are so much nicer..sporty.

Re: '07 Mirrors - let the retrofit challenge begin (OwlsInBog)

Perhaps we can do a challenge to create a better looking design with the '04-06 covers, integrate a blinker by trimming the the housing and fitting a lens. There are plenty of creative folks on here.

what change?

it's ugly, and always one step behind competitors - Mercedes introduced this 2 years ago.
Volvo = slow intro, slow to change

I think they are cute. They look kinda like little headlights stuck on there. The question is, what is their reason for existence? Somehow I'm reminded of the little "license plates" on the back of some tennis shoes ...Why, oh why??
