Brought my car into Smythe of Summit NJ for her scheduled service. No problems.
I had the axle spline clicking issue addressed a few weeks ago. MagoonR was right that they should have replaced the axle bolts at this time. The service writer agreed, so new bolts are now in place.
I asked for the software download for the fog lights to work with the high beams. No resistance whatsoever. He asked if this works, and I told him I read that it does. Great that I did not have to battle for this.
I'll have my silverstars in this weekend.
Thanks to whoever found the software code.
btw- noticed that they commented on the service ticket that an aftermarket component is on the car- the Takspeed safety cable.
SJ

Looks like they are documenting it in case something happens later that might require repair. Documentation to be used in the future in the dealer's favor.

Looks like you've got a pretty reasonable dealer. I'm considering getting it done on mine and maybe also add the relays to enable the DLRs with high-beams but then I'll have 6 lights going and that could be a problem with the cops.
Even with Silverstars installed and cranking the aim up, I still find the R's fog lights too weak. The fogs in my '02 T5 kicked butt with Silverstars, granted they were butt ugly but those big reflectors worked REALLY well compared to the R's little projector-style fogs.
My old T5:

My R:

Hey, don't get me wrong. The R's front end is WAY nicer than the '02 T5.

I really don't like that people think it is in the 'dealer's favor' to document aftermarket equipment so they can deny you service later. They are documenting to cover their a$$.
If the dealer has any sense at all, they are not going to TRY to deny you service. They want money, whether its from you or from Volvo. It's way easier to get money from Volvo than from an angry customer. Just my 2 cents.

For them, it's much easier to get the $ form the customers rather than justifying it through Volvo.
The other problem is that, as I've said before, unless it throws a code or sounds like a silverware truck overturning when you bring it in, their answer is always the same "They all do that" or "That's within spec / normal".
They are too lazy to actually search for a problem that doesn't hammer them in the nose. Why? Could be a lot of reasons. But that's reality for many of us.

Re: 06 VR 15K mile service plus fog light software (MagoonR)

As long as someone is paying for the time, the dealer is not going to throw away money. I do agree however that dealers do not try hard enough to find the real cause of a problem if there is ANY aftermarket equipment in the car. It seems there should be a little more effort to figure out if the customer is really the one who should be getting charged. Here is a funny example and one of the final straws that caused me to leave my job at the dealer:
A customer's glovebox was hanging a little low on the left hand side (very typical)...
Dealer decides to order a new glovebox....
When they disassemble the old glovebox they discover a red wire that leads to a USA Spec Ipod adapter mounted underneath the seat...
They decide that somebody must have messed with the glovebox when installing the adapter.
They tell the customer that it will not be a warranty item....
The funny part:
The Ipod adapter was installed after the glovebox was diagnosed.
The wire was tucked up behind the carpet and the glovebox was never touched.
The funniest part:
The dealer installed the Ipod adapter!!! Ha!
This is stupidity... Nothing more.... Not malice... Just stupidity.... Refer to Quotes for Copeland thread for more discussion on stupidity

Let me guess: In this case, stupidity prevailed, and the customer was denied warranty coverage. That is, the dealership did not believe they were wrong.

Re: 06 VR 15K mile service plus fog light software (MAC1LSR)

Actually, I advised of them of the stupidity... Because they had already notified Volvo there wouldn't be a warranty issue, Volvo would no longer cover it.
Dealer had to eat the new glovebox...
