I'm looking at buying a T5 with bad tranny.

From what i gather, US spec T5's almost always run an automatic trans, that being AW55-51, right?? Do any other Volvo's have the same trans that i could harvest and swap in?? Any idea what YMM?

On the 05-09' T5's, what usually goes wrong in the trans? I assume the servo stuff? Is the valve body readily removable/cleanable?

Thanks!!

While an 02 T5, I’ve spent some time looking at options for servicing my trans.
I can tell you that they are pretty reliable after 2001 as those had some neutral settings that caused premature wear or something like that. Don’t quote me.
Now at 100k miles, I’ve had some shift flares in the past that the B4 servo unit kit was able to remedy. I also had some delay on a hot transmission from drive to reverse. I thought I was losing my friction material after doing a trans drain and fill but it ended up needing to cycle the valve bodies to re-prime them and it’s been great ever since.
To your earlier question, I think you’ll be good finding a donor that might have seen mostly highway/rural service during its lifetime. Should give you years of service!
