I took my 06 S60R in last week for axle spline ping and it's first oil change.
The car had 3800 miles on it and I know the service interval is 7500 but temps have been over the recommended range for the 5W30 factory fill and I'm pretty anal so I don't see myself ever going past 5k even with synthetic.
To my surprise the dealer said they couldn't do the oil change for free because it wasn't within 1500 miles of the service interval.
That's pretty crappy IMO. Aside from that they were great. I had an S40 T5 loaner and they were nice. They did do the TNN for the axles and after I picked it up the next day I went home and changed the oil myself.
Just to be clear I'm not R bashing here, I love the R. Every time I pry the keys from my wife's hands I'm glad we decided to get this over the other options.
For future use, does anyone know the torque specs on the filter and drain plug?
Pat
It's not crappy. It is what it is. What you requested is outside of the service interval. You still can have your oil change, it just comes out of your pocket.

Re: 06 first oil change denied for not having enough miles (JRL)

My car is 3 months old now, but I only have 500 miles on it (still trying to use up the lease miles on the 04 V70R). When is the earliest time to get your first oil change? I remember that you are supposed to leave it in for a minimum number of miles, but I can't remember how many.

Anytime after 1500 miles is fine

Any idea as to what's the longest period one should wait to get the first oil change? My car has a build date of last June (I think) and has only 700 miles. When I asked about an oil change the dealer told me that it has synthetic oil which is able to sit for a long time and still be okay. I plan on changing the oil myself at 1200 miles but was wondering if I should do it sooner.

So what does it matter if they do it early or not?

Volvo may put in a specific "break-in" oil to help seat the piston rings. I wouldn't go out my way to change it early.

I have been advised by many about the additives in the original oil that help promote a proper break-in, and I shouldn't even consider changing the oil before 1500 miles. I am currently sitting at 2200 on the clock with the original oil

What do they put in the R out of the factory? Is it really 5W 30? That's terrible for the summer months. I know it's not synthetic. I certainly will be changing my oil between 2-3K miles with Mobil 1 synthetic.

The oil from the factory is a mix between conventional and synthetic, and also has additives to aid break-in.
I'd recommend at least 1500 miles before changing the oil.

Thanks for the info! I will change it at 1500 miles then. I was just worried that the oil might be too old since oil changes are typically 3000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first. Aside from the cursed exhaust bracket catching on a driveway, the car has been a blast so far.

The bracket was all bent up but luckily it just barely scratched the exhaust a bit. My wife said she never saw me look so petrified before.
Can someone post a pic of where this dreaded exhaust bracket it? I REALLY need to remove it? I don't understand why volvo doesn't remove this and that if we don't we're liable for the damage??? (that's according to the takspeed promotion trying to sell the cable).
