While shopping for my car, aside from the choices already listed, I also looked at:
Lexus IS250 AWD
Subaru STi, then the Legacy B Spec
Mitsubishi EVO IX
Hummer H3 (don't ask why because I don't know)

Have prices come down at all on the Lexus IS350? Probably not interested based on exclusively manuals, but paddle shifters ain't bad.
Much rather have it than the Acura TL, and I like the TL, except the torque steer.

Yeah, the 06-07 Honda Accord V6 6-speed, if you believe the C/D numbers it's actually a little quicker than the TL; which it should be since it's a lighter car.
I always seem to have great luck when I buy my cars new ("good luck" is all relatively speaking) and awful luck with pre-owned ones. Maybe it's because I always use Mobil-1 and Evil Previous Owners use unrefined Canadian tar sand when and if they bother to change their oil.

Wait for http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=56963 that. I don't know about anyone else but I wouldn't buy a car that's on a platform which is being shown the way out. The only downside is that I hear Infiniti dealers are the worst...

Lexus IS250 --- waaay too slow. 350 is an auto, so its not an option. I LOOOVE ITS CHARACTERISTICS thou!!! 5.1s 0-60??? Are you even #[email protected]*#[email protected] kidding meee ??!! WOW! Very impressive! Fastest Lexus ever built, huh?!
SUBARU STi --- monster car with Civic interrior...wow! I love its characteristics thou as well. What can i say. I almost bought a Blue 04 w/21k mi on it in September! I even paid $70 for the PPI (pre-purchase inspection!). But as i said, its a Subaru... Not even a sunroof. No traction control... No brand name. Interior, well you know the story. If i'd live somwhere between Paris and Dakar... STi would probably be my choice for sure... Very solid car, very.
EVO? --- no, no Mitsu for me, rather the STi than, thats for sure.
Hummer ???! --- are you kidding me?! Who said H3 ?!
See, brand name is a little important to me... Acura would probably be the lowest i'd go...

Hmmm, let me see... I'd probably buy a G35 Coupe 6sp, if my close relative/sibling wouldnt drive a 04 G35 Coupe Auto Blk/blk. Thats the only good colour combination for it. Dont like the silver/blk.

Legacy? I saw how Rich, the Chicago Subaru expert was chipping one. I loved it! But design, man!!! Design ma friend. Dont get me wrong, i like the Interior design, and whats under the hood! Boxer engine + AWD = Yummmiiieeee! But no brand name and 2 out of 10 design.
Thats why i picked a 01 A6, back in 2004 over all its competitors. Interior and exterior design! TurboS(a twin ) + AWD + 5v/cyl + its a german car!...

The TL is a very nice car for the money, especially with the new larger nav screen ('05 up) and voice integration, bluetooth, etc. We compared the R to the TL and found that the R offered much more driving satisfaction for the price after we factored in the benefits of the OSD program (the TL at $34K vs. R at $38K with a free vacation thrown in). If it's a direct comparison using new retail pricing, the TL might just win. I found that the interior of the TL is a bit too cavernous for my tastes.
I do chuckle every time I hear people complain about the reliability of the R. My inlaws have a 2004 TL and they have had it in the shop countless times for warranty repairs... one thing after another... and I seriously doubt you will find better reliability with a BMW.
Have you driven all three? Which did you enjoy driving the most? I say go with your gut, but while you're at it take a look at the G35x AWD. A bit plasticky (sp?) inside, but the performance is great and I believe the resale values are fairly low. You might find one for sale at a great deal.
Good luck - Tryg

For the money, this is how I look at it. If you want:
AWD with 6sp manual - S60R
RWD with 6sp manual - G35
FWD with 6sp manual - TL
RWD with 6sp auto - IS350
RWD with less power, goofy styling, but great handling - 330i
AWD with less power, goofy styling, but 50/50 AWD system - A4 3.0
Close to the same performance as the R, less money, but without the "prestige":
Mazdaspeed 6 or Legacy GT SpecB
I think both the Mazda and Suburu look hot, and the legacy GT SpecB has very nice interior to boot. I've also heard the mod market for the Legacy is more robust than the R.

Is. Really. Really. Small.
I am 6'2" and not narrow. I'd like to say I carry my 250lbs well, thank you. When I position the seats in the V70, there's not a lot of room behind myself, but enough to seat someone in relative comfort.
Yesterday, I sat in an IS350 at the auto show. No headroom. Very limited shoulder and hip room. My wife got in behind me and said, wow there's no room back here. I started moving the seat back, and she said, now there's really no room back here. I kept moving the seat back until she said "ok, stop, you're hurting me". I hadn't even gotten comfy yet. She got out and I moved the seat back to where I wanted it. There was less than 2" between the seat back and the rear seat cushion.
Really nice car, but man is it smal. I felt like I was press fit in.
The G, 3 Series and TL all have more room (increasing in that order).
Too bad, I really like the IS.

No, no...this was meant as tongue in cheek.
I was previously stating how awful looking the ES was and you informed me of the changes the ES went through for 2007. I was just conceding on the fact that it is in fact a pretty decent car and should be worth a look.
