MY S40 has had some trouble starting up. When i turn the key to start she idles way to hard..sputters and stalls. Then i wait for about 30 seconds and she starts up and purrs like normal! I though it may be dirty injectors so i got some add in and ran it with a tank of gas for a week and no change..any ideas of what might cause this?
Also i had gotten an update/fix from the dealer about a year ago for the same issue...

I think there is a thread in the stickies about the Start, Shudder, Stall problem. Good luck!

I saw that you had the issue before, wasn't sure if that thread had any pointers or anything in it. Just thought I'd mention it is all, since the forum has been dead all day long.

Sorry, I don't have suggestions either. Did you change the oil after the injector cleaner? I've read on some other auto enthusiast sites that the cleaner can break down oil faster, so it's best to change the oil after you run the tank of treated gas through it. I've not researched it thoroughly though.

Re: (failurbydesign)

At idle the fuel pressure is around 41 PSI if I remember correctly. At WOT it is around 65-67 PSI. If you want I can measure it again to get exact numbers.
I had a fuel pressure sensor fail on my car about 2-3 months ago. The start shudder stall issue, happens randomly for me but since it never fails under load and only fails at startup I dont worry about it.
I had the dealership install the new software, had them replace the fuel pressure sensor, and go through the car top to bottom. I was told by the service writer (who I know and trust) that this issue happens when the gas is reformulated for summer/winter blends.
From what I have experienced it happens more when the car sits overnight or is cold, it doesnt happen every day however.
What is weird is Rosa's SAAB 9-3 did the exact same thing, and it would stall while she drove. Turned out there was a leak in a brake booster valve and it created a world of hurt on the car (but never turned the check engine light on). Once the part was replaced she hasnt had one single problem.

Re:

With a problem like this best way to start is to have the car scanned for trouble codes. Never know what faults may be stored and can easily point you in the right direction. Could even be an immobilizer fault in the SCU.

Re: 05 s40 T5 Starting issue??? (failurbydesign)

i posted another thread about this. my car has had all the SSS updates with no cure.
so what i do is make sure all that in the mornin, AC, lights, stereo are all off. then put ignition to 2. wait for the yellow engine warning light to go off, then try that (about 30 seconds or so) then crank it.
