I've heard conflicting reports and recently saw a picture posted of a "wanna-be" S60R in France (?). The car sports the older rearview mirrors, older taillights and a non-R paint color, yet it has an '05+ S60R bumper fitted. With my recent mishap in the garage I am contemplating replacing the bumper with an aftermarket pre-painted unit. It might be a good time to "'05" my '04, taillights included.
If it's not an exact remove and replace, what would be required for the swap?
Thanks in advance.
- Tryg

You will need to get some mounting brackets from an 04 and get creative. You said aftermatket so I am assuming the evolve one. Make sure the bodyshop has worked with things that have to be "manuvered" to fit right.

Re: (R_Rated)

I thought that the only thing that conflicted with the fitment of an '05+ rear bumper on an '04 was the bumper mounts, they have to be changed from '04 to the "different" '05 ones, and the bumper will go right on

I've seen emphatic "No it can't be done!" posts with no explanation as to why that is.
It seems to me that you should be able to swap the internal '04 mounting brackets onto the '05 bumper and install an '05 on to an '04. I'd have to paint my black lower sills and front bumper trim for it to not look totally stupid though. Not ready to do that if at all but I'd like to see someone answer this question with some facts or personal experience.

I am interested in the factory '05+ bumper, not an aftermarket piece. So I need different brackets to fit the bumper to the car, or can the '04 brackets be moved around as needed? Is there welding involved? I guess I'm having trouble envisioning what is behind the plastic that holds it to the car. Sounds a bit complicated.
- Tryg

Re: '05+ rear bumper on an '04 S60R? (R_Rated)

There are a couple of things you have to mess around with...
No welding or anything like that though...
One of my mechanics did it last year, but I do not remember specifics...
It seemed to be a non-event... So, I would expect no major issues...
