Ok, bought this car used...have all manuals and my wife and I love it.
Problem,
All 10 of the preset FM channels have been set...
when pressing the presets, some of them instantly tune in and they're fine,

others show on the read-out: "P1 Seeking...press Exit to Cancel"
this shows up for like 6-8 seconds before the station tunes in that preset station.
What is the deal here?...it only happens on those specific stations?
8 seconds is like forever to wait?...
I thought it was seeking for a PTY (which I think stands for the broadcast song name...or something)...but if I hit the EXIT button...
there's the station!...and song being played, just fine!
...so what the hell is it searching for?
...and why is it happening on only certain stations?

Re: 04 XC90 radio preset "(P1 seeking...)" question?...HELP? (slider)

This issue is due to the radio seeking out "program information" on that station as it was originally "set" when it had that information present, re-setting the memory for that station when it says PI seek usually prevents it from happening again. Note - this PI info is more popular in Europe and tells it where to seek the same station on a different frequency in other towns/countrys.
However, there is a technote from volvo on this and a download to disable this. Most of us have had it disabled to prevent this issue. Search this site and you may find the technote number for the dealer, but they should know it (it came out about a year ago).
Good Luck!

You need software update p/n 30677012. Tell your dealer about TSB Number: TNN39-37.
I hope that helps.

I wonder if you could lay something on the roof to keep the stations from being tuned?
I'd try just reprogramming when it is seeking, before the station is locked in first, sounds like a quick fix. I have learned to hit exit, but that can get to be a a real PITA.
Thanks for the gret posts and info on this thread!!!

Re: (slider)

Mine was performed under warranty so free of charge (bring a copy of the TSB noted above when you go to the dealer). If your vehicle is outside warranty, suggest you try for "latent defect"...
