I am looking to purchase new wheels and tires for my 2004 R. I recently purchased the car and am currently driving on Winter rims and tires (17"). I have the 18" Pegasus wheels in the garage and was thinking of selling them and purchasing different wheels and tires. I was wondering, "Can you put different size wheels on the front and the back"? Does this mess up the AWD or something? I don't see how it would but not sure. I don't care about rotating them as I have separate tires for winter so would only be driving on these 6-7 months at a time.
I want to go with an 18" or 19" wheel/tire package. What I am wondering is, can I put on a wider wheel in the rear so that I have that deeper inset on the back with like a 2"- 3" polished lip? Does anyone know if this would work or not? Thinking 18 x 8 front and 18 x 9 rear or 19 x 8.5" and 19 x 9.5" in back. I like the look of this car from the Evolve site and would like to do the same thing.......just not sure about AWD issues.
http://www.evolvecars.com/site...0,1,0
I talked to tire shops and they aren't sure. Volvo dealer in town hasn't been very helpful either.
I am hoping that all of you with the experience will help me shed some light!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I am looking at Piaa Super Rozza 2 pc wheels:
http://www.piaa.com/Wheels/wheel_super_rozza.html
But am leaning toward the Tenzo GF7 Sport wheels in Graphite, however, the don't make them in the correct bolt pattern for the R so am inquiring to get a custom set made.....if it will even work.
http://www.tenzoracingsports.c....html
Thanks!
Jason
Wheels and Tires are the most discussed subject on this forum. I could tell you to use search, but that won't help on this kind of subject.
In a nutshell, you have to consider the following:
- 5X108 lug pattern is not the most common
- nominal ET46 offset is not the most popular
- caliper clearance can be an issue
- tire OD front to back must match
- tire width variation can cause front rubbing
Thanks for your input so far....sorry, I need to learn the search function as I am new to Swedespeed...don't mean to annoy you seasoned guys.
I wanna do this purely for aesthetics and to have the deeper lip on the rear.....
I understand the issues with the AWD, but if I keep the overall diameters the same, could it be done?

But keep in mind that you'll tweak the handling if you mismatch widths and sidewall flex etc.

Re: 04 S60R Wheel and Tire Question (MagoonR)

What you can probably do is get the wider rims for the rear and keep the 235 size tires on it. 235 will fit rim widths of 8-9.5". That way you get the look of the rim you want but you have the same OD and same footprint. The only the I can see happening is that the rear tires will appear stretched a bit while the fronts look close to stock.
Denny
