Hello All, I'm from the boston area, and looking to purchase an S60R. I have read a very small amount of info on problems with the 04 AWD having problems. I have found an 04 with 40k on it and like the color combo, but havent commited to anything yet. I have found 04's and 05's with under 50k on them and they are in my price range (under $20k) What should I be watching for. I want to purchase something in my area, as i have never purchased a car on line. I'm new to the site, and hope I am in the right area. If not please let me know where to go. Thanks for the help in advance.

Re: 04 or 05 S60R (J.T.)

Hold out for 05-07 in MT and a 06-07 if you go with a GT... I spent the better part of 2.5 years waiting for the exact specs and features that I wanted and finally found an 06 that fit the bill... I literally couldn't have asked for a more perfect setup to be built had I been standing on the assembly line watching it go through... I don't think most are willing to wait that long but wait for you want and be willing to search far and wide... I found mine on the opposite side of the country.

What color combo are you looking for? I have an 04MT and honestly can't complain (except for a recent bug that's cropped up). As long as you do your homework and make sure it was serviced well and taken care of you should be alright.
Oh yeah and come to Boston GTGs if you get one!

Re: 04 or 05 S60R (djkronik57)

It is hard to hold out. I can't wait that long. I've got my wife convinced that we need this car due to great fuel econemy. I cant keep her fooled long. In about 2-3 weeks our Muscle cars are going to emerge from the garage and all will be lost. She is driving a big block cutlass sx and I'm driving a duel quad 442. The volvo should be slightly better on gas. I also have a 97 850R black on black that i bought and really got into these cars so the R will be its replacement. As for colors. I dont want another black car, but love the blue and orange interior. Manual is a must.

'04 was the first year so it has the most bugs (especially with the 4C). The '05 also has a slightly nicer interior (see brushed aluminum accents -- like around the spaceball shifter) and color keyed bumper and door strips (which are black on '04 models -- although I actually like the black).
-Eric

I dont beat up the cars, but don't drive to save gas. Anything is better than our other cars. They don't get gas mileage, they get an hourly paycheck. $15 an hour in the tank. Thanks for the info.

I don't beat up on my R either...but I do enjoy driving. It's reaaaaaally easy to keep mileage in the single digits when you're around town. But, you're right, it's still not going to get mileage like one of your Oldsmobiles. It takes a gallon just to start one! lol
-Eric

Re: (J.T.)

I just bought an 06 v70r from lincoln Nebraska. It wasn't a scam but I did have to fly out there to complete the deal and drive the car back. These cars are hard to find so it cant hurt to search everywhere..although you have to add the transportation costs

All years will be prone to issues sooner or later. That said, spend some time searching the common issues and decide how new you can go for the $$$ you want to spend......and for the umteenth time, try to get the service history and have it checked out by a competent Volvo mechanic.

definatley hold out for what you want unless the price is right but you do have to look over it well for the usual angle gear leaks and such im a volvo tech so i found a 2004 passion red R which was the color i wanted and got it for $10,500 becasue i told them what needed to be done with the car and they came down off the original price but they didnt know i could do it myself so it was a great buy for me but i would hold out for what you want if you can dont rush into it which ever one you go with they are still amazing cars

05 S60R with under 50k on it for $20k or under. No Black exterior, no tan interior, love the Atacama, looks very rare though. manual a must. i should go post this some where. And it needs to have service records.

Re: (J.T.)

Explain the angle gear problems, and what you had to do to fix it. I'm sure I can replace the parts, I just did 2 frame off resorations on our cars. Thanks

Re: 04 or 05 S60R (J.T.)

I just bought my first s60R last week in CT and live in the Boston area as well...the car is awesome...super fast, nasty suspension, really nice leather seats, and the exhaust note is perfect....for a 2006 I paid $22K w/ 23K mi, manual, full body kit, factory NAV, etc...There is a 2006 black automatic at Ramsey Volvo in NJ...I did not test drive this one, but I came across it when I was lookng for mine...it's a little bit of a drive, but the mileage and price are pretty sick... $21.8 @ 14K miles....you could def get them under $20K...the dealership I went through was orig. asking $27K....you should call them to get details ...

Re: 04 or 05 S60R (The Brouhaha)

mine was CPO w/ a 6 yr 100K warranty....make sure you get that too so when the angle gear grenades itself, they pay for it
