One of my friends sent me this thread in the mail, an interesting comparison between an 02' S60 T5 Manual and 02' Maxima GLE Auto.

The S60 T5-M seems to have really good numbers at the upper end and the general consensus was that of its superior trap speed makes for a good high speed runner. The VQ35DE in the 02' Maxima's now makes 255hp.

Boy,

are there some SORE losers there or what? I just registered for a quick post and gave them my two cents! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! They cannot believe their poor little Maxima lost to a Volvo!
LOVE IT!

And the funniest part is that they call Volvos ugly while they believe that one of the UGLIEST cars in the world, the latest model Maxima, is pretty! MOUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

This one guy mentioned the Carrera 2 but I have a problem with that statement he makes.....
My S60 DOES kill a MY 2001 Carrera 2
Not up to 60 but enough juice left to make up for it before 100.
I don't see the point of this 1/4 blah all the time because here in Europe that is just of no importance.
Rolling power is what counts and I think even a stock manual Volvo T5 is one of the best in it's class when it comes to that.

I dunno guys, I got a different impression when I read the whole thread. I think that a lot of those guys really respect the T5, which I think is very cool.

The Maxima contingent is fierce & loyal, and some of those guys have some bad-arse cars as well.

it's kind of weird because there are two groups on that thread who post on emotions vs who post based on true facts.

the one thing i don't understand is that what is the 6 spd that they are referring to? is it actually a taller gear? can the engine actually pull it?

i've been look at the spec sheet for comparison and the only difference i see is where the max torque is developed. the maxima is pretty high above 4000 where as the t5 is around 2400. both produce about 250 ft lbs, about 250 hp, and weigh roughly the same

Some of them do, but some of them were not too thrill an outsider, a non-Max owner, jump'd in to defend Volvo.

Regardless if they have respect for the T5 or not, I still think it'd be interesting to play with one if anyone I know around here has one. I heard a lot on CL-S sites about the new Max and the new CL-S, just thought it'd be an interesting race, that's all.

Hopefully didn't give you the wrong impression.

All the dyno's I have seen of stock T5's were rated between 255 and 265 Engine HP and torque was higher than spec also.
I think the big difference is indeed the turbo, torque always available.
Those Nissan engine's run very nice also but the facts remains that the turbo always gives a little advantage and tweaking is simpler also but we were talking about stock, Mods are always a very difficult comparission.

Exactly, Johann...Now, I would not pass up the opprtunity (if it ever arose) to "kill" a Maxima...
Actually, my neighbor has a 2001 Maxima SE manual transmission...I doubt that he would want to run though. He is crazy when he drives his motorcycles but very conservative with his car. Oh well!

The reason why they all got surprised was because they never thought a volvo would be in the scene of performance. That's like seeing a Saturn in 10 years. Saturns, deep deep deep deep deep down, are actually quick cars. And with more years of development, I think we will see some good Saturn cars. And then, the whole Korean market (Kia mainly) will be talking, "Whatever, my Kia Rio will beat that Saturn anyday."

[almost choked to death after my lemonade spilled all over my face as I was reading this] WHAT???

Where the hell did this come from? Saturns are...[big gulp] QUICK cars? Well, it depends. If you are used to driving Volvo 240 Diesels or 740 Diesels, yes, then they are rockets...[another big gulp]

Well, i seen magazines hyping up saturn cars with better engines. I'm just saying, in the future.

And the only volvos I driven are my dad's old 240 and of course my own S40.

I haven't ridden in a S60 in about a year, but I did drive a 02-02(can't remember, doesn't matter since they only have a few cosmetic differences) Maxima GLE Automatic today.

It is slow and I don't know why there is so much difference between that and the 02 Maxima SE 6-spd.
